Kathy, your lovely painting transformed an afternoon shot into a night miracle. The Topaz strokes on the golden trees and purplish mountains add so much interest that it seems like an original painting of the scene, not photographic in nature.
There is a place with a similar look called Maroon Bells that I've seen photographs of many times. At first, I thought this was the same place. You found a beautiful spot with an unusual name! (I had to do a Google search on Convict Lake after you piqued my curiosity.) I love the way the greens in the sky complement the other colors in your painting. It's a powerful yet peaceful image. Great job! |

Hi, Nancy, Your final painting certainly tops the original! I love seeing the full band of colorful trees behind the horses and getting rid of the stuck in the mud bus and walkers was wise. I also like that you masked to get the detail back in the faces and horses. I just think you need to tone down the grass and path to a shade darker, so the foreground won't compete with the horses and wagon in brightness.
Most of the funny story about me was accurate, but actually it was I who removed the door lock from inside, after I pleaded for them to stick a phillips-head screwdriver under the 1/2" gap below the door. I had to keep turning off the light to hear people outside, since it was connected to a noisy vent fan. People kept asking "Were you scared?" I was more worried that the bus would stay stuck in the mud than about getting the door open, ha! |

This was one of my husband's and my favorite photo spots, also! It's such a "3-D" look. Since I don't see any "original" shot for the "before" look here, I am going by memory. I like the rainbow color style, which I imagine you added for the painted look. It's so much to take in. I think you might like to burn-in some places, or at least darken all 4 corners just a tad to lead one's eyes to focus on your favorite part of the scene.
Thanks for a trip down memory lane. |
