Used Aperture (no longer supported by Apple). Scared helpless about transitioning to LR; afraid of losing 5 years of files. Texture - used 'Retouch' with multiple (35) brush strokes to paint over the outline. Agree w Bill re the distractions; an enlarged image shows the strokes. Yucky! The feathers were a 2 step process. 'Sharpened' the radius but very lightly otherwise flare results. Then used the 'edge sharpen' tool to define the breast feathers. LR has these tools; have to learn what LR calls them. |

Absolutely fantastic image, Bill. Never thought the image of a fly could keep my attention the way yours does. Ditto everything that Carol has said. It sure is contest-worthy!!! |

Hummers ARE the best; Amer Goldfinch close second in my book. This is a great shot and see what you think about some of this. First, tilted the image eliminating the feeding tube and blackened the entire image. increased the vignette, painted over the bright flare on the left, did a minor increase to 'definition' and sharpened the edges to bring out the breast feathers. GREAT IMAGE, Carol. |

Great suggestion, Carol. I never think about blowing up the image when doing this type of blackening. THANKS - try to keep cool. |
