One disadvantage of being last to the party is that I have nothing to add. Really enjoyed the concept and your execution. Have returned to this several times - a very appealing image, Denise |

Denise,
This was a single bud among many on a fairly large cactus plant on a table near a large window. The sun was low, shinning directly on the buds. Kept turning the plant until I got good light on a bud then manually focused on the top of the bud. That gave me the glaring highlights, Bill but also filtered through the body of the petals which I liked. Will try higher f stops for the DOF issue.
Thanks everyone. |

Very intriguing image, Ginger. Never would have thought of trying this. Your focal distance must have been extremely close to pick up such great detail. Maybe a smaller aperture would have brought the bottom into clearer focus but then you probably would have needed a tripod for the slower shutter speed you'd need. This is very nicely done! |

Super sharp capture, Bill. A different approach to the thorax highlight might (?) be increasing the highlights on the entire body. Tried it out in attached. Sharpened the radius and the definition and increased the red saturation, maybe too much. You even picked up the eye components - exciting!!! |

I have a couple of feeders and am jealous of your success with this hummer. Very appealing image and especially impressive given you shot through a window. Agree with others re the limb on the bottom left but would "paint" it out using adjacent colors; cropping will reduce the pixels and possibly sharpness. Also, reducing brightness a tad and adding a minor vignette will darken the background and make the little guy pop out even more. Nice picture and story! |
