I absolutely love this Lynne. Golden Retrievers are my favorite dog, I have had five and Poppy a nearly two year old is my current companion. Photographing dogs is a challenge. You did a great job with the candid shots. Were they all shot in HDR? The top one looks like HDR and to get the lighting without flash I'm thinking HDR would be the way to go. I'm hoping to get Poppy in front of the Christmas tree. wish me luck. I hope you share this with the dog owners and if it was me I would have it on my wall. |

Some places just keep drawing us back again and again. I think an interesting project for this location is to photograph it in the four different seasons or four different weather conditions and make a "quadtych." I had to look that one up :) For some reason this place speaks to you and when that happens we sometimes need to stop and listen. |

Well, Schmoo was certainly in the comics during my young years but I don't remember him or them. Great imagination and representation of the character set against a pleasing background. Keep having fun. |

What a beautiful tree to have in your yard. We don't have color like this in WA at least not in the natural environment. I see what Richard means by removing the dead or bare branch on the right. I'm wondering if you could just crop tighter on the right to remove the car also and maybe a little on the left to balance the tree in the image. Your post processing worked really well. |

Your early morning hikes really pay off. For me the side lighting on the cactus and grass is an important element in this image. It is a testament as to the dynamic range of a phone camera over a DSLR or mirrorless camera. Well done. |

I'm thinking about the upgrade. Not sure Santa will spring for it as I'm Santa. |

I love the action of the hummingbird with the wings extended and the tail flared. For me the background is a bit too busy and distracting although it is the environment you had to work with. I like the crop that Judith did as it puts more focus on the bird and flower. A quandary similar to my owl image, what do you take out and what do you leave in. |

When I first looked at this image I thought it was done on a light table. Then I read your description and said WOW. I do like your second edit based on Mike's suggestions. Extending the lower branch and taking out the leaves really anchored and balanced the image. Looking at your original and what you did creatively is amazing. Keep up the good work. |

I'm glad you were able to photograph this interesting frog in equally interesting vegetation. If the frog is your main subject I think you could crop tighter or do a square crop to bring more focus on the frog without losing the colorful vegetation which is his environment. For me the broken stick is a bit of a distraction and I think I would try to remove it. |

Beautiful, I think Monarch, butterfly on this colorful plant. I think your crop works well and the muted background works nicely. I agree with Mike's suggestion about dodging around the head. However as I look at the direction of the light it seems to be coming more from behind the butterfly so the head ends up in the shade of the wings. Well done.
Congratulations on your showcase image. |

What a beautiful place and even though you wanted sunrise on the mountain I think the dramatic dark clouds can work also. I agree with some of Mike's suggestions. The foreground rocks seem a little too bright in your first edit, however in your second edit they seem too muted. Is there a happy medium? For me the rocks on the right side by the water are a little too bright which you toned down in your second edit. As I look at the image I'm reminded that it is sunrise so the light will be brighter as it breaks through the cloud cover and highlights the trees, rocks and produces the beautiful reflections in the water. So, in my opinion I would only make subtle adjustments and let the time of day and scene speak for itself.
Loved your milky way image in the showcase. Congratulations |
