Thank you Emil.
This was taken in rural Cambodia. |

With a sky like that, how could you not take this scene! The color works well for me, and I agree with Arik in that other than the foreground people, it all comes together well. Very nice Henry. |

I echo the others' comments, Emil. At first glance it's just a river bank, but on closer examination there are distinct, beautiful layers of tonalities and textures. The eye moves from the silky water, to the light reeds, the darker trees and then the sky, in a corkscrew kind of motion. |

Good job finding such an elegant composition in everyday life, Palli. I love its simplicity, and the rich blacks and whites you achieved. |

You made it look easy, Gary! The final image doesn't look processed at all.
Wonderful scene, so well rendered. I love the curvature of the building. My only nitpick would be that there's frame on the right to this "window", but not on the left. |

You've got quite a collection of bridges, Charles!
It's simple, yet effective. I think you could have dodged and burned even a bit more. It has a nice peaceful mood to it. |

Nothing like an image of people doing something, to immediately generate interest. Here, the motion blur completes the story. Very well executed Arik. |

The blue works fine here, Melanie, but it does tend to draw the eye to the lake. Perhahps that's the point, but the vineyard-ist in me is wanting to see beyond to the beautiful landscape. But I suppose that's another shot! Still nice as is. |

Thanks Palli. It was taken just a bit to the east of there, in Cambodia. |

My first impression was, great job Kieu-Hanh, but Steve does make some good points, especially regarding the blur on her clothing. I don't mind the lack of depth blur so much. You can sometimes get this effect naturally using a longer lens, if the people are back far enough. Regardless, I like how it turned out. I like the sharpness and the color, very nice. |

Great subject, Pat. The challenge here is how to deal with the background of course. You've managed to reduce it, but the while halo is a bit much, as Steven points out. He has an interesting and creative idea, but that's his take of course. I don't have the answer, but for those who are fond of swapping out backgrounds, this would be a good candidate. |

I like it, but it's got a definite blue color cast, which I don't think is necessary for the composition. It's easy to correct if you wanted to. But nicely laid out otherwise. |

I like how, when used for photojournalism, this group becomes our little window on the world, for current events. I'm glad all is well with you.
I think, if you cropped out the ceiling, the eye goes more to the distant sky, and the obstruction of the foliage. |

Yes, speaking of color, colors on opposite ends of the color wheel tend to compliment each otherĂ¢â‚¬¦here, that would be the yellow flower and blue sky. But the cactus also has a yellow cast which contributes to the effect as well. |

Great light, Steve, nicely done.
When you say 9mm/77mm, did you use a special lens, or does that just refer to the amount you zoomed in, with the built in lens? I'm struck by the lack of any blur, is that intentional? Using conventional cameras, photographers will concentrate on getting the eyes tack sharp, and accept or even appreciate blur elsewhere, as a result of wide aperture etc. Your thoughts appreciated; how does this shot compare to the ones you took with an SLR? |
