66 Dec 23 Reply Gary, there are no visible defects or noticeable manipulation. It's more a sense that something is missing. Photography is personal expression, in the end, and I think when we pass even part of an image off to AI, we risk losing that.

Looking at the original, it may not have worn well with you, but you took that image for a reason, perhaps the overgrown weeds being so over the top. Replacing that with something neat and well behaved, is replacing your personal expression, and the new image while cleaner, lacks that personal connection.

Sorry to be the naysayer on AI, there's always one ;) I'll keep an open mind about it.

66 Dec 23 Comment I was here a few years ago; beautiful scene, Emil, and the image has a definite somber mood! I think increasing the contrast as Charles says, would improve, for example by bringing out the different tones which form stripes on the hills. Dec 1st
66 Dec 23 Comment I think having parts of the sculpture in sunlight, adds to the tonalities and interest, Palli; I also like the use of sepia; very nice presentation of this artwork! Dec 1st
66 Dec 23 Comment While I applaud your getting into the possibilities here, Gary, like other AI images (including generative fill or sky replacements) it doesn't come together for me as well as images where you're presenting the image you've seen. It would be fun sometime to omit that in your description, and see if I notice, or if its all in my head ;) Dec 1st
66 Dec 23 Comment I'm glad that you left more than half the image as sky, Charles, as to me this is really a cloud-scape, accompanied by the winding river landscape. I love skies like this, with both the low, puffy cumulus and the high wispy cirrus; here the interplay is especially nice. Dec 1st
66 Dec 23 Comment What a wonderful image, Arik! The fact that you choose a two color palette for the people, and how you implemented it, brings order to what would normally be a busy, disorderly scene. I love how the man in front anchors it.
Looking at the original I'm seeing the two colors there also, could you elaborate? Was this one after the channel swapping was done?
Wholly enjoyable!

66 Dec 23 Comment I love the human moment you've captured here, Melanie. Did you have a regular camera with you when you were shooting that day? I think an unconverted camera might have done an even better job, as IR tends to be a little soft. It also seems to be a little wider than it needs to be. But these are minor points. Very nice. 86 Dec 23 Comment It's a beautiful organ, Gene, as the others say. I too find a little distracting the distortion, and also the necessary fact that it's not grounded, and the place where you've decided to crop doesn't really help the image. Dec 17th
86 Dec 23 Comment To answer your question, Wayne, it's a good blend of organic shapes. As Steve points out, the leaf provides just enough of a clue to keep it from being totally abstract. I like that besides the leaf, the background is not distracting. Dec 17th
86 Dec 23 Comment Great way of putting your own take and context on another's art, Kieu-Hanh. Having the shadows across the striped pavement, creates some mimicry with the structure. The buildings provide a nice non-distracting background. It all works very nicely!

Steven gets at an interesting point....even though this is cool as a pano, I'm not sure it needs to be. I like a crop where the vertical links are about 1/3 of the way down into the image...that focuses me on the area of most interest. If the intention is to show all the of structure, then perhaps a bit off the bottom would help.

86 Dec 23 Comment I agree with Steven, Pat, in that the collage is nicely put together and presented, and makes this image work. In addition to the way you've laid it out, the colors are nice as well. Dec 7th
86 Dec 23 Comment We have those in California also, Ruth, beautiful summer flowering tree. They look more like leaves than flowers in this image, so perhaps this is just showing fall foliage as Steven says. I agree with Steven's comments and think a bit wider shot would be nice as well. Dec 7th
86 Dec 23 Comment I frequently use my infrared camera in mid day light also, Steven, it opens up all kinds of possibilities. I love how the foliage to the right of the barn renders! The scene is nicely composed and has a nice mood to it.

It has a definite high key feel, not sure if you were after that, or if that is a feature or limitation of the IR filter. That's ok, but I feel like I'd like to see a bit richer tones on the barn. Also, in the lower 1/4 of the image, interest drops off, as it gets rather dark. There's also a light area in the sky.

Overall it's still very nice. If it were mine, perhaps a tighter crop on bottom and a bit of sepia.

86 Dec 23 Comment Thanks Steven. The black and white brings out the graphical qualities more; the trees on the left form a nice triangle with detail on the tops; this version is nice also. Dec 7th
