I echo Palli's comments, Arik, in that it's a nicely composed and colored scene. Because the "window from a dark place" point of view is so central to this image, I really need to see the frame of the image (the background of the web page being black, we can't see the end of the image). I need to know whether you've included just a little black space, or more, etc. |

Thanks Gary and Palli.
I've removed the tree trunks. As to Palli's crop, I feel I like the wider shot more, so that the kids are part of a larger scene, but I welcome others' comments on this. |

I love the scene, Emil, but I find myself agreeing with Gary again in that the sky needs a little more punch. I would also brighten the whites of the trees at left, a little. You could also crop out the top part of the sky, but for printing etc I can understand leaving the original dimensions.
But there's lots to like here, the dark sky down near the horizon, and the apparent wind in the trees, add a bit of drama and mood to the peaceful scene. |

Nice graphical image, Palli, which shows your skills at composition. The image is carved up into different elements just right, and the placement of the circular tree stump is perfect! I had mixed feelings about the fence at the bottom at first, but it grows on me, and I can see you l eft the dark nails near the bottom edge which works really well. |

Yes, the blue edging, and also the bright green spines of the fronds, kind of set the image up. I also like the black background.
I always appreciate your creativity, Gary, even though you usually end up with images far from my wheelhouse ;). In the original, I can see how you felt you had something to take a bit further, and the result is enjoyable. |

Such a bucolic scene, Charles. I like that you only show part of the barn, and include the whole tree and the old farm implement, which makes this special. And of course the sky is perfect for this scene and completes the mood. |

I have a similar reaction as Gary, Melanie, the kids don't have those surreal wax figure type faces we so often see in IR people shots. But that's all fine, and I enjoy the image, it's all about, as you say, how children universally seem to be happy with what little they have.
I think a little work on the tonalities might improve the contrast and impact. For example, brightening the shirts and maybe a vignette. Very nice though. |

Very nice, Kieu-Hanh, and I just love Steven's crop, for me, it was just what was called for to complete the image. It has nice foreground, and background, and the fact that the boats have bare masts, adds another graphic element to the image. I think phone photography and travel are a perfect match! For midday shots like this I only use my iPhone these days. |

Very nice, Pat, the screen is hardly noticeable. Your edit has nice, rich colors; it's a cute nature shot. |

What sets this apart from just a vase of flowers, is the beautiful backdrop you've provided for your image. I like the muted colors, the tree, and also the two little leaves which have fallen down in front of the vase. (I see Steven disagrees with me on this one ;) But very nice, and happy Birthday Ruth. |

I can only echo the comments of the others, nice texture and detail, makes for a nice nature shot Gene, no suggestions for improvement. |

The placement of the two flowers works well, and then the way the spent buds are all leaning the same way is nice, it creates an enjoyable scene for me. Some might say the top flower is too close to both edges. |

The framing provided by the white foliage around the falls is classic, Steven. I agree with the comments about the sky not being necessary, and the bottom not quite working as well. For me, the few white spots on the bottom rocks don't form an interesting pattern, which is what we photographers are always after of course. Maybe lightening the rocks as Ruth suggests would make it work better. But overall it's beautiful Steven and well done. |
