Thanks Palli, I had added a little as it was quite flat, and I think your idea improves on that. |

I was also here last year, and didn't try anything in infrared. The key to the success of this image, for me, is the sky, and how your processing has created that otherworldly look starting in the sky, which allows me to buy in to the image overall. Given the flat light you had to deal with, I think infrared was a good choice and has improved the image. |

I like the way you've used center lighting to display the grass, Palli. As this is all about the grass, it gets down to the presentation, the processing, and as Arik illudes to, the final feels pushed a little - for me, too much definition and contrast. For this kind of image, I prefer the traditional infrared soft dreamy whites, as you have in the original. This is a matter of taste, of course, and I have a feeling Gary will have a different opinion ;) |

I kind of like the wonder-bread frame, Gary, but I could see a love it or hate it response, as it's very prominent at the risk of overtaking the image. This is bold in its own way for an infrared image, as you don't have any of the foliage that dresses up IR images, in fact you might get a similar result from a conventional camera. But its the nice low angle December light that makes it work for me, it creates a mood of melancholy. |

As Arik says, Charles, it's a nice scene, and it's amazing how you were able to recover those white tones in the trees. The transitions, or the edges, do become very difficult to pull off. And while the blue tone does work for me in the water, it works less for me in the sky. It's as if the blue makes it more realistic, but with the clouds all being the same tone, it feels as if we've lost something. But I'm a bit of a black and white purist. It's very nice overall. |

Arik, I never get tired of the texture of leaves as you've presented, in infrared; creates such nice mood. A few comments:
The house almost gets lost here, due to the tonalities of it being in the shade, it's kind of dull. I think brightening the house would be easy and would improve.
Also, the color tones overall don't quite work for me. The foliage seems to have a very slight red tint, and while I understand the sky, I'm not sure the blue tint of the house works or is necessary.
I've been thinking about your crop, and you've ended up pretty close to what I would have done. But the bright foliage right on the right edge; that's some of the whitest tones in the image, I would have cropped just inside of those. Slighter tighter overall might improve; I don't think we need all that on the bottom.
Of course these are mostly just minor points in an otherwise lovely scene. |

This style is right up my alley, Melanie. I love the graphical qualities, the bright tree in front of the dark, but not black, hillside, and that white corner! The foreground sand is a bonus. When viewed large, the lack of definition, detail, starts to become more of a problem, but overall, I like this. |

I agree with Steven that the nice guy that you've got here really helps make the image. I'm not bothered by the burlap base, the border of which ties in to the festive theme; makes for a nice card. |

Images like yours show how much iPhone cameras have improved, Pat, very nicely done. Like Steven, I'm impressed by the color, but feel like the shoe tips on top should be included…. |

This is one of my favorites in your series, Ruth. I think its because of the repeating shapes, or the way the springs below mimic the doves above, and how you've kept out any distracting elements; very nice! |

I feel for you, Steven! I guess the only consolation would be, the following week things got even worse. Good job of using "the camera you have with you" for some photo journalism.
For the story you are trying to tell, a person lost in thought in the midst of this, the question is how much context do you need, and I come down on the side of needing more, something closer to the original, where we can see she's a person in a crowd, and there's less attention on that "travel assistance" sign (unless you wanted us to see that). Photo journalists have such a tough job of making order out of disorder and clutter, so good job overall. I'm curious to what others think of the crop. |
