A classic IR scene, Emil, the elements are perfectly placed, and it has a great old feel to it. A couple of stylistic things I might have tried, would be a bit of sepia, and a vignette, to give the image a sense of borders. |

I've been staining the deck this weekend Palli, so I groaned upon seeing this ;) but of course its and interesting rendition of lines and patterns, which I always appreciate. I think Gary hit on something I was thinking, and that you might think about getting even closer into scenes like this, finding the most interesting patterns, or the image within the image. |

Thanks for an interesting and provocative image, Gary. It's hard to critique another's personal, photographic expression, but just a couple of comments; the broken windows and gloomy sky contribute to this for me; and also that the light effects, for some reason, works best on the right part of the image with the building, for me. |

I like the minimalist, graphic qualities to this, Charles, nicely seen. I would be fine with either sky. It's clean, the darkness adds mood, and I think it accomplishes what you were after. |

Just lovely, Arik.
These are the kinds of images I aspire to shoot, when given the opportunity. I love the simplicity, the storm, the elegance of the tree. I think what I like best, is you didn't over dramatize the sky; it has a realistic, gloomy feel that adds so much mood, and the realism allows me to buy into the image. |

The shadows caught my eye, too, Melanie, very nicely done. I will have to echo Gary in that my only suggestion would be a bit of noise reduction. Are you shooting with the AR 7 mark ii? |

I love it Gary. Seems no matter how much I darken the sky, I never go far enough. I think local adjustments like you've done here, though take a little more time, pays off. |

Thanks Gene. It seems that with the iPhone, only iPhone 12 and 13 shoot raw, so I'll have to wait till my next upgrade on that.
I'll attach the Sony a7 version for comparison. |

The impressive curve immediately captures my attention Kieu-Hanh, it's a natural for black and white. Although to Bob's point there's not much detail there, to me it's the overall shape, the graphic qualities, that make this image interesting. So I think you've set up just right, with the repeating shapes, and the alternating tonalities on the bricks too.
My only nitpick is that the processing has left a bit of haloing, light areas around the perimeter of the structure, and also at the borders of the trees, so that the clouds appear as a wedge with a light border. This is common in post processing and I don't have any suggestions on how to avoid it, if it bothers you, other than reducing the overall effect a bit. It's still a very nice image either way. |

Great, bold colors, Pat, and I like the way the tones create some interesting patterns in the brick, which didn't exist in the original. Nicely done. |

A good one for the season, Ruth, and I like the story behind it. The few things I have from fifty years ago are very special.
Bob and Belinda above make good suggestions. |

It's a great travel image, Gene; definitely makes me want to go there some day. I think the foreground you cropped out of the original is actually kind of nice, the tiles make for nice leading lines into the image. But your crop is fine too. I do tend to agree with my two colleagues above about maybe just a bit off the sky. Also, I've found a touch of contrast tends to increase saturation a bit, so I'd start there. |

It's very creative, Belinda, the drooping curtain effect you've added, gives the image more depth as you note, it becomes 3-D. I agree that in the black and white, you lose a little of this depth, but I think that's because in black and white images one tends to notice lines and shapes and other details, in other words, I'd agree with Bob that there is more to enjoy in the black and white version. |

Great idea, Bob, so well conceived. You show how the iPhone and other cell phone cameras can hold their own with "real" cameras. |

Thanks Bob, White Sands National Park is in south eastern New Mexico. Your points on the shadows and highlights are well taken. I take a full camera version for possible printing, and it will be easier to correct in that version. |
