That's an interesting take, Emil. I hadn't really considered there is another pole further out. |

Sure Melanie, right on the horizon, about 1/3 of the frame in from the right, it's a light spot in the clouds near the horizon. Looking at the original, it looks like you didn't crop this, so it can't be the center hot spot I was thinking of, so it's either a result of dodging or the sky really had that light spot. |

That's an interesting point about the pole, Palli. I think for me it works in the scene, but power poles and lines often become a love it or hate it element in landscapes and that might be the case here. Thanks for your critique. |

Great use of a somber day, Emil. I like the simple effectiveness of this composition.
I picked up on something Arik mentioned. When I viewed the original, I noticed the kayaks stood out more, suddenly became the focal point of the scene. Even though this isn't an overly dramatic sky, I think dialing that back a bit would help the scene. I would also prefer some more lighter tones in the trees. |

Very nicely seen and presented, Palli. Once again I find myself identifying with Arik's comments; I too like how in the original, I can see more of the beautiful floor reflections, in fact, the shape and the lines seem to pop more. They're a bit muted in the final version due to the dark shadowy presentation. I also like the warm tones. |

Gary, I applaud the creativity. We all have images in search of something to make them special, and you've taken that next step.
It's interesting that, even though we know it's fantasy, we still want to buy into the scene, and Arik does a better job than I could explaining how the rendering might be improved. I would add that to me, ghost images lend themselves more to soft and dreamy feel overall, and the high local contrast detracts a bit for me. Finally, for some reason, I'm wanting to see the gate swing from both sides, or maybe it doesn't need the gate at all; the path, and the ghost in the forest has enough to pique my interest. |

This makes a nice companion image to Melanie's; a stark landscape defined by trees and sky with great mood, congrats on your processing. I am wondering, does this look anything like the the scene as seen by the eye at the time? |

I do get a nice sense of place, Melanie. I'm immediately drawn to the barren looking trees, and of course that sky. I would normally agree with Palli as I try to make my skies as dark as possible (haven been prodded in that direction by Gary over the years) but here, similar to another image you posted in recent months, I think the softness overall works, and that too much contrast would take away from the mood.
So I like this. There does seem to be a lighter circle on the horizon towards the right. If you've cropped from the right, this might be that center hot spot that occurs in some lenses on IR cameras, and can be reduced by using a wider aperture. |

Thank you, Stephen, I'm a fan of b/w too, and have dozens of sand dune images of such. In this case it almost seemed like a "waste" of the beautiful sunset light, but I think I will give it a try. I would probably use a version I took with my SLR rather than the iPhone. |

It's a beautiful and interesting image, Kieu-Hanh, even without the painterly effect. The black car, which many would have removed as it is contrary to the natural beauty of the scene, ends up making the image special. Although I like the painterly effect (Tangled FX) on the trees, I'm not as fond of it on the leaves on the ground, and I think overall, I prefer your "original 2" the best. |

I didn't realize it at first, that you've superimposed the two images. Very nicely done, the two blue unicorn are quite interesting and are a good addition to the scene. |

Thanks for the festive image, Ruth, it has the colors for the season. You've filled the frame nicely and the background is complimentary. Best holiday wishes to you also! |

Very interesting, creative image Gene. It's real, yet a head-scratcher. I think cropping out the railings both top and left side, would leave you with just the building and tile, and increase the "what am I looking at" effect. |
