Thanks Gary, that's an interesting question! I'm in the habit of carrying the IR camera mid day, and the color camera only early and late, but even if I'd had the color camera, I think it would have been a more difficult exposure, and lots of work post processing. As Arik mentions the IR camera seems to handle difficult light better, as you can see from the original, where one can see both the window frame, and detail in the room, despite a bright window. As a bonus one gets the soft mood, in this case eeriness, that is sometimes associated with dolls ;) |

I started out by thinking, "nice job on the shadows!" but then, thought maybe it's too much, in that the shadowless building feels unnatural. I might suggest putting just a touch of contrast and shadow back on the building. I also think the sky is an important part of this image, the way the clouds continue on the left side of the building. To that end I might punch up the sky a bit, as in some polarization or take down the over brightness and bring out some drama and cloud detail.
It's an interesting scene with lots of potential, Emil. |

The placement of the three boats at the bottom make this for me, Palli. The vignette is lovely, but overall I don't perceive the effect of through the porthole. It's still very enjoyable, and has a nice sense of mood. I have no suggestions for improvement. |

Just wow, Gary, for originality, impact, and execution.
I gather from your description this is basically "as seen", which for an image like this, for me, makes all the difference. Wonderfully seen. My only suggestion would be, I think you could crop just a bit off the bottom, and still have the impact of the plane flying up, and less distraction of the clouds at the bottom. |

This reminds me of my treks in the American south west, Charles. I can definitely identify with the primitiveness you were after, and captured. It seems you cropped a bit of the foreground off from the original, and, even though there's not much there, I think the road tracks play an important role in bringing the viewer in, and prefer the original crop. |

This is just exquisite, Arik. For me, the partial colorization so well executed makes it other-worldly, as so many great infrared images are. The simple beauty of the reflections, the kayak, etc, bring it home. I think this would also make a great image in black and white. |

I really like the composition of this, Melanie, simple yet so pleasing, the curve on which the eye is lead, from lower left around to upper left. I especially like the center of the image, the reflections, and shadows there!
On the processing, its one of those I loved as a thumbnail, but seeing larger, see some little imperfections; the vignette is a little too noticeable at left and especially right. The partial colorization I really like in theory, but I think I would like this even more as either a straight black and white, or a black-white-blue. That may be just me, look forward to the others' comments. Overall it's wonderfully seen and very nicely executed. |

You've done a nice job cleaning up the background, and by increasing the saturation, bringing some impact to what might otherwise be an everyday sight. Nicely done Gene. |

This is where an iphone camera really shines, Kieu-Hanh, that slice of life, in the moment capture. This immediately places the viewer in this beautiful scene. It doesn't matter that the painter's back is to us, as the eye goes right to the painting itself. There are no distracting elements, and I like the way that one flower pokes above the rest, very nice! |

Kudos for getting these nice macros with a camera phone, Ruth! I used to shoot bees and butterflies and found it so therapeutic, so relaxing. This is nice in that there are no distracting elements, and nice sharpness on the bee and flower. Interestingly, you've got the same complimentary pink and green tones that Belinda has this month.
PS The image is a little small due to the file you sent; perhaps try for a little larger next month. We have another member struggling with file sizes also. I'm not sure if Phil ever posted a tutorial on this, but of course it's different for every workflow. |

Very creative, Belinda! I liked how you picked up on the soft pastel tones of the plant, the pink and green are very nice, and complimentary. And I especially like the way you've used the droplets, it gives the image a 3D feel. |
