I like this Emil, for, as Melanie said, the graphic quality of the lines. I especially like the lines on the left. I'm a little unsettled by the ones on the right not being in line, but that adds a little tension, perhaps a good thing. I'm also a little bothered by all the empty sky, and feel I want to crop down just a little bit more, even though you don't have much room, just a tad. Overall, I agree it's very well done. |

I'm one of the few who's never heard of Car City, Gary, so thanks for letting me know about it! My first thought was, this is unusually low contrast, for Gary, but looking at the original of course reveals it was quite a low contrast scene. I tend to agree with Arik's comment, as in perhaps lower contrast in the surroundings, and I'd try for richer blacks in the car itself, or if that's not possible, perhaps just making the steering wheel true black would be enough. The unexpectedness of the steering wheel is what makes the image for me. |

When I first saw this, Palli, I thought "must be a photoshop filter" so I was glad to read it was a real scene, very compelling, and I think well suited to black and white, as in color the tree and shrubbery may have rendered it too busy. I keep coming back to the stones and their being just lifted off the ground, this adds a bit of tension to the image. |

I'm starting to get a feel for your style, Charles, and this is one of my favorites. I just love the shadows, their graphic quality, and what they tell me about the scene. The dark wavy line of the driveway leads the eye. Very nice. |

They say the eye goes to the area of highest contrast, which in this case are the silos. It works very well for me, Arik, and the only thing I'd change, is make the sky closer to black, as Emil mentions. Otherwise, I don't mind the similarity in tones of the lighter areas. I think the silos have enough contrast to carry the landscape. |

What a find, Melanie!
I think Gary's edit best gets after what we all were seeing; there's some color in the sky, kind of a sepia tone, that doesn't mesh with the rest of the image. I like Gary's version very much. It looks like he cropped in just a bit closer too, which I was also going to suggest. |

Thanks, Emil. I like your crop, and I definitely agree with taking out that pole in the middle. The tones are somber, moody which is a little different but works, too. |

Thanks for weighing in, Bev! Good job on the content aware, yes I find it makes a difference. For me, the distraction is more the little curve of highway there right on the edge of the image, more than the poles. But your edit, reduces the visibility of the road also. |

Thanks Gene. I think phone images should be evaluated on the same basis the big camera images are (not necessarily images to be edited in conjunction with an ap), and that's what you'be done here. I appreciate the insight. |

I love the curves in the building, Kieu-Hahn, and it's made especially nice by the complementary curve of the walkway and ledge. It all comes together very nicely. The hues and saturation are very pleasing, and you've got an interesting sky also, well done. |

I really like your turning this into portrait orientation, Pat, it makes the image. I also like the pink hues you have added. |

Gene, your image ended up just a bit small, we'll have to work on that for next month...but it's very nice. The contrast between the stormy cloud and the boat masts is what draws me in, very nice crop. Part of me is thinking maybe more of a pano, do we really need all that foreground water? Very nice black and white rendering. |

Nice closeup, Belinda. You might consider cropping the bottom 1/4 off, that would just leave the snail and the flower, for the viewer to contemplate. Macros are tough with phone photography, as it's hard to get enough sharp, but the mat of blurry flowers creates a certain dreaminess, if we could just get the snail a tad sharper.... |
