It's lovely, Ian. I am surprised that at f8 you were able to still achieve sharpness throughout. Perhaps there was some foreground blur in the cropped out part? Personally, I would have preferred the lighthouse and center rock, not to be centered as they are (or nearly centered). I'm sure you considered this and have a reason for it, perhaps to include the land border at left, or you just preferred it this way, which is fine of course. |

I guess I'm the one photographer to Kyoto who missed that shrine, Joe, so I'm glad to have come across your image. The repeating, the sense of 3D, the bold color, it's all quite mesmerizing and thoroughly enjoyable, even the delicate shadows. I like that the text is in an unknown language, so as not to be distracting. |

This is beautifully composed, Abe. The droplets just make this, so I'm thinking it would have been nice if you could have set up the camera more parallel to the scene, or with a greater depth of field, so that the rear (or upper left) drops were sharp also. But maybe it doesn't matter, let's see what your colleagues say. |

Nice travel shot, Jose, and as you say, wet streets can add so much to an image! My only nitpick would be that, too bad there aren't really any people walking towards the camera, except far away. As I've never been to mainland China, thanks for sharing. |

The way you've positioned here is just right, Peter. You've enabled the viewer to see more of the roofs, and the highlights on the roof lines are just the bonus in this image, which works so well in black and white, with its repeating lines and shapes. Even the dreary sky contributes with it's repeating waves, yet not distracting. |

Maybe there should be a minimalism group here, John. I'm a big fan also, and love what you've done here. |

What a treat, Terry! I like the high contrast you've used, to help the little mushrooms stand out. It's interesting you've cropped to just four (given that some prefer odd numbers) but I like this rather than include one of the misshapen ones, or cloning another in. |

I like the way the very busy background of the bare trees just fades away as the stark, prominent old bridge takes over ones attention. I like the symmetry, the shadows of the framing, and the wooden planks of the bridge itself have taken on an almost painterly feel. I will be curious to see what others think about the graffiti, I'm not sure about that. |

Its been years since I've been to Costa Rica, Adrian, but yes so many opportunities there for nature photographers. This definitely is a high impact image in black and white, especially given the high contrast treatment in your processing of it. The eye seems tack sharp, which of course is the most important. There was probably too much gradation in the rest of his head to render that uniformly sharp, especially at f6.3. I'm assuming at 800mmFF you used a tripod? Very nice overall. It may be one of those images where in order to get everything sharp, it requires taking multiple images and blending. |

I find that images that convey joy in the photographer, Ed, often suceed in conveying feeling to the viewer, and that is the case here. It's a very nice still life, and it's all about the way things are positioned, which must have caught your eye. I like the diagonal of the upper sticks, and the curved shavings throughout, and the cross piece being just below the center. A couple of suggestions: I think the vignette is a little heavy, in that it encroaches on the foreground piece at right. Also, the inclusion of the scene beyond the two bars at top I find distracting, and much prefer a crop which uses the two bars to help frame the image at top. |

I do like the black and white version you've posted here, John. It definitely has a wintry feel, and the little ornament in the center serves as a nice focal point. I think if you wanted to accentuate the stream, then a somewhat closer in version might work better. |

Thanks Melanie, I think I've gotten used to that curve with this lens (28mm), I need to work on that, your version is truer that's for sure! |

Of course paths and trees are commonplace in infrared images, but you've taken this to another level of composition, Emil. The use of the fences, curves and shadows are exquisite. I think you positioned yourself perfectly for this shot. I've no suggestions for improvement, we'll done. |

It's quite a nice scene, Palli. I like the way you've framed it, the tree trunks and the people at about 1/3 from the bottom, the dark trunks, it's quite lovely and I can almost feel I'm there. I can't help but feel I wish the couple were walking towards the viewer, but alas even so it's quite enjoyable. |

Like Palli, I was immediately drawn in by the selective colorization of the barn, Gary. That's tough to pull off, and though I might have toned the color down just a bit, it's still quite compelling.
As to the painterly effect, I have a hard time embracing it, would have preferred all of the image be of close to the same effect, rather than the painterly on the sky and right side trees mainly, with great differences as to how it was applied throughout. I do applaud the idea, however, and suspect it might resonate more with others.
I'm seeing an image close up with the barn and just a few surrounding trees. Lots to enjoy here Gary. |

I love Gary's black and white version, but yours also has appeal, as a beautiful winter scene. You have lovely clouds, and the pond reflections are a bonus. |

I'm partial to the black and white, having seen both Pallis and the lovely version you posted at group 47, John.
In all the versions there is a soft dreamlike feel and mood which is quite pleasing. |

I love the setting Melanie. I wish I had a way of getting around that front tree trunk. Even Gary's, doesn't quite do it for me. I do see and enjoy what you were after here. |
