I completely agree, Jen! And had a few Covid projects myself this year. |

This is quite the nature shot, Jen! Great detail, lighting, framing, and a lovely choice for black and white, given his patterns. I can't offer any suggestions for improvement.
Note: I wasn't sure if the "covid lens" was sarcasm or auto-correct gone wild, so I left it. Let me know if it needs to be edited. |

It's often pointed out that when photographing another's art, the importance of adding one's own personal perspective, and I think you've done that here Albert, with the somber tone, the shadows, and the angle. I think perhaps just a touch more contrast would help, and I also wonder about the branches shadows at top and right; they distract just a bit. |

Nice nature shot, Don, and though my first impression was it lacks tonal contrast, in a way that contributes to the nature story of the animal blending in with it's surroundings. The highlights in the grass, and the light tones on her snout, do help a bit; perhaps those could be lightened just a bit more. |

Great street photography, Adrian, and so emblematic of Cuba! I was there several years ago and was struck by the way music permeates the culture, the many children on the street, and the optimism of the people, all of which are displayed here. The color in the original, which is also emblematic of Cuba, would take away from the boy playing, and that makes this a great choice for black and white. Well done. |

This turned out to be a classic surfing shot, Ed, and seeing the original, which wasn't quite there yet, I have to give you compliments on the post processing. We can see the surfer's face now, there's just a hint of ocean behind him, you've fixed the tilt, etc. What struck me about the scene was the steely smooth water in front of him. |

Well done, John. It's not just the tension of the photojournalism moment, but there's lots more to enjoy here. I like the angles, and the way you've positioned yourself and framed the shot. But what makes the shot for me, is seeing the driver in the side view mirror. |

Thanks Adrian, and I like your take as well, the closer in presentation shows more detail in the "moonscape". It certainly is quite a place! |

Thanks all for the comments, and to john and Emil in particular, I agree, that a bit more foreground is called for. |

The composition of repeating trees reminds me of a recent image of mine, Emil, but here you've taken it to another level with the panning to the sky technique. The ground has turned into a scene reminiscent of ice or water with beautiful soft reflections. It's very creative! I need to try this myself sometime. |

Palli, I agree with Emil that you're second version is much improved. I don't mind the extra grain, I don't think the blurring worked well here, and prefer the crispness. As such, V2 is a nice composition with an ominous sky, and a nice sense of mood. |

I love seeing the corn in infrared, Gary, that's a first for me, cool! Especially the tassels. But I do find myself, after seeing the corn, feeling now what, by which I mean, that unlike Emil, I'm wanting just a bit more detail in the inside of the barn, or just a bit less shadow. That might have been difficult given the wide tonal range created by the bright sun outside. Also, a pet peeve of mine, is that on images that go nearly to black around the frame, that the use of a fine white frame line would be very helpful in delineating the image. (Or maybe I'd prefer the webmaster use gray as the background).
But overall, I like the idea here. |

Very interesting, unique, and creative, Charles! It doesn't feel like infrared (which is fine). The use of similar color shades, wholly unexpected, adds something to the image for me, which I can't quite put my finger on.
I keep looking at the frond behind the purple one, which perhaps is a little bit of a distraction, and I might have preferred it to be just the three fronds, but I still enjoy this very much as is. |

I enjoy your portrait, John, not just for the wax museum feel to the skin, but the light and the texture where the scarf wraps around the neck is just beautiful! |

I think the tablecloths make this a natural for black and white, Melanie. I love the scene and found my mind thinking "Europe" then "San Francisco", but of course, it's New York. If this were a zoom lens, I think I might have zoomed in just a bit more, per Gary's comment. Also, in your black and white rendering, there seems to have been little shades or bits of green left. See the third table from bottom, left, for example.
Overall very enjoyable however! |
