What I find special about this, Jen, is the way the garage frames the scene. You've presented it at an angle, so it's not overly obvious. In fact, there are lots of nice angles and lines if one looks around. Photographers have different opinions on graffiti, I'm not a big fan of it unless it's the subject of the image, because anything that looks like text has me trying to figure out what it says, distracting from the cityscape behind it in this case. |

Very nice portrait, Albert. The one thing that gives me pause, is that they appear to be looking at another photographer. I'm not an expert in environmental portraiture, so any thoughts on how you approached this or think about this are appreciated. I almost feel like it'd be more engaging if they were looking at you, or at something else that was relevant to the image. But I like the way you've presented them, and also the way you've blurred the background. |

I like this landscape very much, Don. You've got a dramatic sky, the rocks, the lighthouse all positioned just right, and the sailboat is the bonus. I don't have any problem with the tonality of the water. Although the sky, and the image as a whole, is softer than we often see portrayed, that's to my preference. You've got some true blacks in the rocks. Perhaps more contrast on the lighthouse (whiter) and adjoining building might improve. Also, I wish the sailboat were leaning into rather out of the scene, but that's a minor nitpick. Very nice. |

Very well done, Adrian. I like the backlighting, and the way you've filled the frame, the curve of the tail. There are no distracting elements. Great nature shot. |

I agree with the other comments, Ed, nicely done, and a great subject for black and white. As you've added a frame, I notice the top seems to drop off to the right, and there's an imperfection bottom right, little nitpicks that can be addressed. Otherwise it's an engaging and interesting image. |

The definition on the feathers is really nice, John, and nice sharpness. I agree with Albert, the white background doesn't feel quite right, though I don't know with what I'd replace it. |

Thank you Palli, yes, I think the river reflections render better in this version. |

I agree with Gary's comments, Emil, what a lovely scene, and I'm partial to the original. If shooting this myself I think I would have a hard time deciding how to crop it. You've gone with a wider image, but the vines growing on the buildings are so compelling, I think one could have cropped in closer also. I think just a touch more contrast, and the black and white works great.
I think this image is already interesting enough that it doesn't need the color reworking, and that the effect is to draw attention more to the unusual coloring and away from the composition itself. But it's still an interesting image either way. |

Very nice, Palli. But it looks like it was underexposed. Was that the look you were after? Of course, in scenes where the camera is metering off a bright sky, it is common to have the rest of the image underexposed, very dark. The reflection is very nice, and I think I would enjoy it more if it were a little brighter. Also, a slightly tighter crop would increase the prominence of the distant building. |

I can see by how well this is done, Gary, that you're in expert in portraiture! I agree with Melanie's comments. I find the original to be so well lit and executed, I'm having a harder time buying in to the infrared version, although I do like the crop there very much. I would like to see you do one with your infrared camera. Thanks for sharing. |

On images of reflections, crop questions abound, starting with where to divide the reflection and the subject? I find having them not quite right down the middle can add a lot of interest to an image, Charles, and while your crop shows a bit more of the scene than the reflection, I would have preferred going in the direction of Gary's crop; one could even go further and crop into the statue itself. In other words, less of the scene and more of the reflection.
The reflection is lovely, and I like your post processing treatment of the image overall. |

I agree with Charles' comments here, Melanie. Even though that little bit of light on the tree is nice, I think the image is better without the tree, or if the tree were smaller. Alas, not to be ;) But the sky is just great, and there's a surreal painterly feeling to the foreground, which make for a beautiful image nonetheless. |
