What a fun idea, Jen, I've never been to the border marked by the historic river, despite having visited Mexico so many times.
Regarding the image specifically, I think it's a bit dark, I'd like to see the desert sand a lot whiter. The boat crossing the river and the water motion work very well. |

I enjoy the unexpected nature of this, Albert, and the simplicity. The marmot, the rock, and the beautiful sky; an excellent example of not including distracting or extraneous elements. The look and the tilted head of the marmot is the cherry on top! Thoroughly enjoyable. |

Lots to like about your rendering of his beautiful scene, Don, foremost the beautiful leading foreground.
However the two sets of rocks conflict for me. My eye wants to go to the distant ones, but then the ones at left are larger and more prominent. I look forward to reading other takes on this. One idea that might help would be to reduce the contrast / definition on the left rock outcropping.
Even so it's a beautiful image which is very enjoyable. |

What a great action shot, Ed! And all the more special having a family member, your son, as a subject. I've learned a lot about martial arts just from seeing this and reading your caption.
Their outfits make this a natural for black and white, and you've managed to minimize distractions in the background. The motion blur on your son is what makes it special. |

Thanks, everyone. I entered this in our club competition this month and the judge was bothered that he couldn't see the power line go off to the right edge of the screen, it just ended. He assumed I cloned it out ;) I can see it clearly in Gary's version, so I'll have to either go that route, or try to clone it in, ha. |

What an incredible sky Emil!
But my next impression was that it's way too soft, especially given what's such a dramatic scene. If you're intentionally going in that direction stylistically, then that's fine of course. I am curious as to what you think of Pallis edit, which is kind of what I was after too.
Looking at the original, I can see you've already increased the contrast substantially. I have this experience often in editing, where I'm subconsciously comparing the image to the original, ie, how far it's come, and not evaluating the image on its own and what it might become. You may have had a similar experience here.
Still a great scene, and well presented. |

I agree with Gary's adjustment to the white reflection Palli, but find the rest of the image very enjoyable as is. The tree and it's reflection create a nice circular pattern, and the detail and definition in your post processing works very well. Very nice. |

The barn reminds me of the Palouse, Gary. I'm a big fan of those IR skies, too, and this ones great. I applaud your taking an image you didn't feel the need to crop, although my personal preference would be to hone the crop a little. I don't think that much foreground grass contributes much, and the barn feels too centered, but those are minor issues, and of course a matter of preference. |

Hard to go wrong with those beautiful foreground ferns Charles. I can't help but want to see this one in black and white, or , after viewing the original, I'm struck by the orange sky! In that version, there is also some beautiful light coming through the window.... think one could make several images from these! Very enjoyable as is too. |

Interesting that you don't get the dreamy motion blur streaks that we expect with a normal exposure Ernie. The image is still enjoyable for its rich dark tones, textures, and somber mood. Yet I think compositionally, it would benefit from a point of interest, someplace for the eye to land. |

This is quite compelling Melanie! The way he butterfly has rendered black results in some great contrast. The black legs and tentacles are my favorite part.
I'm not sure I'm totally on board with the crop you've chosen - I see possibilities for both a wider crop showing more of the foliage, and a narrower crop to perhaps square or vertical, as the foliage along he right side is a little distracting. This is just nitpicking of course. It's a lovely image and thoroughly enjoyable. |

Thanks, Gary, you've definitely brought out the power lines better, and the sky has more impact. I think, as usual, that for me the ideal image lies somewhere between our versions ;) |
