Thank you for the comments Don and John. Actually, that isn't sky but shadow (see original) but if the image is creating that illusion and it works, that works for me ;) |

In a way, this is a good one for black and white, as the dark tones of the plant pods are set off against the light tones of the background grass. But seeing the original, it does show additional tonality and detail inside the pods, that the black and white version fails to.
The only suggestion I'd make would be perhaps a shallower DOF than f8 for this, which might further blur the background, and hopefully, (and if you don't stand too close to the subject) still retain the detail in the foreground. Interesting image, Jen. |

Beautifully composed as usual, Don, with the water mill being where the eye goes first, and so much to enjoy after that. One could crop in and make multiple images here, but it's quite successful as is. My only nitpick is wanting perhaps a greater tonal range, or that the trees in the background lack tonal contrast. But its a lovely scene and quite enjoyable as is. |

It's beautiful, Sharon, I wouldn't change a thing.
It looks like a partial desaturation - is it? Those are hard to pull off just right, but this is very elegant; just a hint of blue or purple in the black. I also like the way you rendered the greens so white. It just jumps out as a perfect image for black and white. Very well done! |

This turned out very well, Ed. I have a hard time shooting natural looking images with a fish eye lens, but here you have the beautiful wide scene, and any distortion (like the leaning trees) still feels right.
This has a lot going for it - those rocks with those tonalities leading us into the scene, the pool placed just right, that sky...I would have preferred fewer buildings, maybe just the lighthouse, but one can't have it all of course. Very nice. |

John, not only do you have the slow shutter speed effect on the waves, but the pier with the repeating fading into the distance adding depth and interest to the scene. And the birds are a little bonus. This spot must offer some nice opportunities when there is a better sky, etc. But yes I like your image and the processing very much. Welcome again to group 47. |

Thank you Emil.
No, this is a hand held 1/250 exposure.
I think the clouds just had that motion feel or perhaps were moving faster than normal |

There's a softness to this which is a little unusual for infrared landscapes, Emil. It works nicely, but you might also try increasing the contrast, for whiter leaves, and a darker sky.
This is one of those images in which it's fun to look around and find little things of interest (the left half could be an image on it's own), but at the same time it's one of those where my eye really doesn't know where to go. But I agree this is an interesting scene and it would be fun to work it. |

I agree, Palli, the result is quite nice, it has a nice mood to it, an old-photo feel. And I like the composition you've made with this crop, with the three vertical branches, and the lighthouse placed between two of them, in just the right place in the frame. |

I've heard that infrared gives people a waxy mannequin like appearance, Gary, and this definitely brings that out! This result is quite successful, no suggestions for improvement, and kudos for stretching out and trying new things. |

Another beautiful scene for an infrared, Charles, but I find I like the portrait orientation of the original more, for some reason. Seeing the tall trees makes the effect of the road fading off into the distance more pronounced, and quite lovely. Also, the black and white rendition seems to lean right just a bit and to lack the definition of the original, not sure if that's due to the crop or the post processing. |

Beautiful sky, Ernie!
I wasn't sure the composition had enough to hold my interest at first, but I find I really like the darker rocks at the bottom, and the way they fit into things, and envelope the shrubbery, it all kind of comes together. It's different, original, and though it may take a few moments to appreciate I think it works quite well overall. |

Scenes like this are naturals for infrared, aren't they. Here, I like the dual tree trunks which act as a kind of anchor, and the shadowed foreground which helps frame the image. As to the cyclist, I can't quite get past the hand gesture, whatever that is. But I shouldn't complain as I don't have much luck at getting natural looking shots of passers by myself.
Did you mean Sony a7ii? I think that's a great idea. I converted an a7, and love the results. |
