Thank you, Albert. I have been struggling with the amount of vignette on this image. I am curious to see if others have the same impression. |

It's a lovely street scene, Jen, and made more special to me by the bicycles, and the news racks behind them, which contribute lots of repeating shapes, which make for a clean and interesting image. I agree with Ed's comment about the shadows. Also, there are some bits of color -- a yellow bicycle seat, and some green on the balcony shrubbery. I've found that SilverFx sometimes does an incomplete job of desaturating. But overall this is a very enjoyable, well conceived and executed image. |

The spikes on the tops of the buildings make for an interesting scene, Albert. The main one front left seems almost too prominent, and I might try cropping some of the left side off.
Any chance this is a print? Because the lines almost look like a finger-print. Keep in mind, the processing brings out detail you wouldn't necessarily see in the original. Also, there seems to be darkness along the top of the mountain that doesn't look quite natural.
If, like me, you do a lot of infrared work, you might be interested in the IR dedicated groups, which are a lot of fun. |

This is a wonderful graphical image, Sharon. I like the symmetry, the leading lines; there's a sense of quiet, somber mood.
A few comments on the processing - Did you accentuate the light on the people? If so, it seems almost a bit overdone. I think I'd prefer it dialed back just a bit, more subtle. Also, although the darkness helps convey the somber mood, I might play around with just a bit more contrast, to show some more whiter tones. There are some beautiful black and whites in just the pillars which might be brought out more. Of course, you don't want to distract too much from the story of the two people descending the stairs. Finally, the protrusion at the bottom of the stairs; I find that a bit of a distraction, only because the eye goes right there. I might try cloning or cropping that out, but it's not a big issue. Overall I find this very enjoyable. |

I think this is a successful travel image, Ed, in that you've conveyed a sense of place, some place far away and different. I find sheep in particular make great subjects!
The only suggestion I might have would be, the sheep seem to "pop" more in the color version, because in the black and white, the sheep are of the same tone as much of the rest of the image. Toning down the trees, and the highway, might make the sheep show more. Also, if you have a take with the man in the middle of the street, that would be even better. |

I agree with Ed's comments, John.
You do have some very nice light coming in from the upper right side, which gives this scene some potential. |

I love this image, and the series. It takes the dreamlike nature of infrared images to a whole other level. Aside from the rendering, it's a beautiful scene you've taken, well composed. |

Hi Palli, I would have to second Melanie's very perceptive comments. It's a very nice slice of life image. |

Great find, Gary, and love your creative take on it, very bold! Even the original works very well. You probably played around with just the red, or just the green, vs. both... maybe even less saturation of the colors. I find it hard to get just right, but there's a subtlety in partially desaturated /colorized images that can be quite effective. There's also the issue of the color including the frame, which I'm not sure about.
Just little things to think about, but it's very well done as is. |

Lovely scene, Melanie. I wish I had had more time to see Pisa when I was there, rather than just the tower.
A few comments on this version vs the original. I understand the using of curves or levels to whiten leaves, which I often do in my images too, but in this image, I prefer the center line left darker, as it becomes too prominent in the edit. Also, I would have preferred some of the tones and shadows left in the tree right side, the original has some mood which I really like. Rather, I might have used the rear most tree and or building to achieve those whitest tones. Still a beautiful image. |

I find it very creative, interesting, and original, as the others have stated Ernie. I'm not as much a fan of the Topaz painterly effect as I used to be, but this is still quite lovely. |

Thanks for the good comments.
Melanie, I think I considered the version you mention, but I couldn't get it without getting at least part of the far right tree too.
I think as to toning, it's the way I had my conversion done, with a high contrast black and white image out of camera. I will post an original some time when I have a chance. All I do in post is increase the contrast a bit more, to try to fill the histogram, |
