47 Dec 18 Comment Hi John, I like your rendering of this street scene, as the people have very rich black and white tones, contrasting with the gray tones of the trees and sky. It is a nice slice of life photo from a Paris sidewalk. Dec 23rd
47 Dec 18 Comment Great nature image, Jen, and the water is fine with me, though I'd like to see a bit less of it, ie, a closer crop. Great job on the bird, works so well in black and white with that rich shadow. Dec 13th
47 Dec 18 Comment A scene with a mood reminiscent of Don's image, and equally enjoyable, Albert. I think you've placed the church perfectly, and I just love the hanging clouds, and the low contrast works very well there for me, given this scene. I think this is a great travel image with it's sense of place. I can't think of any suggestions for improvement. Dec 13th
47 Dec 18 Comment What a beautiful, striking scene, Don. My eye is definitely pulled to the building on the right, and those great clouds just above it, and beautiful light. It's too bad it's so far to the right. You may have already tried different crops, to help balance it as much as possible, but of course you can only crop an image so much. I think there is some room to crop from the bottom and the left, for example. This one also feels like it leans a bit left, to me. Dec 13th
47 Dec 18 Comment Indeed its a beautiful building, Sharon, and you've created a nice setting here. I particularly like looking down to the lower level. It was probably low light, and yet you've made a nice sharp image, with a nice range of tones. My only criticism is, I would have probably opted to get in closer for a tighter composition, rather than the "big picture" as you've opted for. Some might say the entrance door right, or the stairs center back, take the viewer out of the frame, and that there might be images within the image that might have been zeroed in upon. Dec 13th
47 Dec 18 Comment I think this works very well in black and white, Ed. The bold saturated colors in the original, distract from the story of the sleepy sea lions. These animals have such an obvious love of relaxation (kind of like cats), I think it makes them easy for we humans to connect with. Well done all around, although it does seem to lean left just a bit. Dec 13th

66 Dec 18 Comment I also thought a lot about the trunk in the lower left corner...but I concluded it worked and was necessary to the image, although I agree it adds some tension and I can see why it might not work for others. But I feel the foreground is wanting, without it; it's needed to bring me in to the image. Also, there is some mimicry with this curved trunk, and a leaning trunk on the upper right, which I like very much.

Otherwise, it's quite an intriguing scene, and I agree with Gary's whitening of the ground cover just a bit.

66 Dec 18 Comment Nice composition Palli, and you've got some good detail on that rock. You weren't blessed with the clouds of the other images, but no problem, I'd just crop down a bit, you could even crop both top and right, if you wanted to keep the same dimensions. Being infrared, the dark sky does provide some drama on its own, so maybe it's fine as is, looking forward to seeing what the others think. Dec 3rd
66 Dec 18 Comment I like this Gary. Telephone poles are such a natural composition aid, I always like to find good ones like these. Some might prefer the rider coming towards us, but can't always get that. I like the vignette, and the dark sky. I do appreciate high contrast black and white when it feels right and not pushed, and this one does. I have a little trouble with the very bright hill in the distance, but realize you do need a bit of pure white... Dec 3rd
66 Dec 18 Comment Beautiful , Melanie! It's a somewhat different take of the mittens, which I appreciate, and that sky is just made for IR! I love the wide open spaces feel of the background, which is so emblematic of this part of the country. Dec 3rd
66 Dec 18 Comment Thanks Gary, and I think I agree with you in this case. I'm going to work on an edit. Dec 3rd
