Thanks for the good comments, everyone. I agree, a longer lens was called for, the drawback of shooting with primes... |

Thanks John, the latter, I shoot most landscapes at f14 or f16 to get most of it sharp. |

This is very elegant Jen, and I particularly like the little leaf which leans left at the bottom of the scene. I think this might benefit from a simple frame, because given the black background, it's impossible to know how much, if any, empty space, is included. It might be fun to play around with placing it off-center also. |

This is very nicely composed, Don; the presentation of the mill and it's placement in the scene is just right. It may be my infrared bias, but for me I'm not sure a scene like this lends itself to black and white; it's a little "muddy" and might benefit from a tad more contrast. I still find it enjoyable and well captured. |

This is really beautiful, Darrell, in so many ways. The yoga ball, her placement around it and the overall off center placement, the beautiful soft lighting, her pose, it's really stunning, looks like professional work, and I've nothing to add. |

I have an affinity for simple images like this, especially with graphical shapes and lines like this one, I find they help my photography. Those white veins make this a natural for black and white! My only nitpicks would be the third leaf upper left - in a way it contributes; not sure, wish there were more of it, or more in focus. Also, the little leaves, sharp right and blurred left, give it an off balance feel for me. Overall, a great image for study, thanks for posting. |

One can't help but go to the window reflection, which is very nice. I'm not sure if that was your intention, but a closer crop might accentuate this more. |

Thanks Darrell. I wasn't sure about the sky, here is the uncropped version. |

Thanks for the inputs and edits everyone. I think Melanie's comment about the tonality of the lower being too close to the upper is the problem, and I'm going to work on that. |

Good job on the cloning, Palli, not noticeable and improves the image. I like the brickwork, and how it renders in black and white, such good contrast. Did you try any without the tree trunk at right? It does help frame the image, but for me the interest is the old brick buildings. |

I agree with your take on this famous scene, and am also a fan of a 1/4 horizon to show off a beautiful sky as you've done here. So much of these beautiful landscapes are about the skies.
A few nitpicks on the processing - it looks like there's some noticeable center lightening or edge burning on the left side -- I agree with the idea, but maybe it needs to be feathered or otherwise finessed. Also the right mitten looks a little dark. And while I usually like offset crops, this one is close to being centered, but not, so that it feels off balance to me, and I'd rather it be centered, i.e, a smidge off the left. |

I immediately thought "Cuba" upon seeing this; it succeeds as a travel image, with a strong sense of place, a feeling of yesterday. Too bad about the power pole being so close to the cyclist, but of course that's street photography. In fact I'd enjoy the image more without the pole or wires, but that'd be a lot of removal work! |

I was just out looking at ferns today too -- great subject for IR, striking whites, lines, etc. The way you've kept any distracting elements out of the scene helps this work. The shadows across the trunks of the trees create a nice mood. |

Very nice, Ernie, I like the way you've rendered this, with the black sky setting off the white juniper, and the nice texture on the rock. I'm not sure about the clouds in the lower left corner; some would say they balance the juniper, I would like to hear what others think. But overall I think it's well composed and presented. |
