Thanks, John. Yes, that seems to be the challenge of this image, lack of black, or contrast, as this was at sunset and there were few shadows left. I will try to work on it however. |

Thanks Albert, I agree. I like your crop better and will play around with that. |

Perhaps a difficult image to portray in black and white because of the preponderance of darker tones, I find it still excels at evoking mood; the water drops, the fog, I feel as if I were there, and it is very successful. |

Not only do you have the juxtaposition of old and new, you have a myriad of lines and angles, which makes for an image that is far more interesting upon reflection than it originally appears. The three little bushes are the cherry on top, although the left most is a little too close to the edge. The tree at right detracts a little for me, but overall I find this a very interesting image that was very well conceived. |

I love the feel and flow of this image, Don. It's a beautiful composition, with the elements placed perfectly, and conveys mood. I particularly like the very soft (natural) sky -- something I've often done -- whereas photographers often push skies to unnatural effect, being its so easily done in software these days. I'm a little unsure about the white (rocks?) in the front left - these seem to be the highest contrast points in the image, which draws the eye away from the rest of the scene. Maybe toning these down, while boosting the white on the house itself, would help. |

Lots to enjoy in this well composed image, Darrell, from the little rock in the foreground, the eye is led right back to the eventual cross, great depth. My only nitpick is that it shows a little noise in the sky, but otherwise its very enjoyable. |

I think you've applied your compositional skills well here Ed, the way you've framed him so well. The background and light can be difficult in images like this, but I think you've done a good job on that -- the smaller branches and the blur from DOF work quite well. It's a little noisy - was it cropped much? It must be fun having that much reach in your bag - 900mm! |

It's a disorderly scene to be sure, John, but the rich blacks and the twisted and curvy trunks in the center do hold my interest. Perhaps cropped in to more of a square might work even better, but I do find this an interesting scene just the same. |

The grass renders beautifully here Palli, and I think the vignette type effect applied does help focus the attention there. It's tough to create order out of disorder in a scene like this! - though I do think Antje's version does work even better. I will look for the article, too. |

Certainly very strong compositionally Gary, with the peninsula protruding into the scene and the tiny lighthouse at the end. After clicking on the full sized image, I do agree with Antje in that it feels a little pushed, whether you refer to it as local contrast, definition, or clarity. I also prefer a crop which eliminates the upper 1/4 or so, the smoother clouds - although this would leave you with non-standard dimensions, which matters to some (especially if you print) but not to others.
Overall, I find it a very interesting and enjoyable image. |

Picking up on Antje's comment, I wouldn't have known this was IR if not for it being posted in our group - I've never really thought of street photography taken in infrared -- I will have to try this sometime, thanks for expanding my horizons. You certainly have achieved rich tonalities and contrast, and I agree very much with your edits. |

Welcome Antje!
This is a very interesting image compositionally. I've also thought about there being six zebras, but still enjoy it, especially with their different positions, the odd space in the middle, and the baby one -- it ends up with a very quirky feel to me, in a good way! Eliminating the baby one also works, maybe even better as you say. Five is certainly a more pleasing number, and the resulting image has less tension, for better or worse.
On the processing, I'm thinking that while Gary's suggestion is a good one for most images, for me, here, I might prefer the softness in your original. To me, bringing out the clouds more doesn't really improve this image, which is all about the zebras to me. In fact, I could see it cropped down just a bit, and putting less emphasis on the sky.
A lovely and interesting image. |

Very nice graphical qualities, and tonal range in this image Ernie. I think your post processing efforts have paid off, as it has great contrast, and a natural sort of vignette, all which focus the eye towards the center and the beautiful patterns. |
