I like the almost abstract nature of it when I focus on the shape of the wave, or the shape of the receded water there in the middle -- that's where the interest is for me. Including the top part makes it more of a landscape, but there is a certain mood conveyed which is very nice. It's a little like one of those two images in one image; very nice overall. |

It's lovely and I think you've done an excellent job with it, Don. I have to admit though as I ponder it, I become more conflicted about the painterly background, vs the photographic portrait. The soft and lighter tones are just beautiful, and my personal preference would have been to keep it a photograph and try another background, but this is still very interesting. |

I'm no expert in model photography, but as the casual observer will say it looks very well done technically. In particular, the bicolor hair renders well in black and white and becomes a point of interest. It's well composed and presented. |

I agree that scenes like this are tough to convey in black and white .... for me, it's the color green, that ends up being a mid tone usually, and too much of it leads to a muddy image. But here the bumped up contrast, and the lighter tones in the foreground, help make this work. The clouds are great in conveying the mood and sense of place. I also think the houses at left contribute nicely. I think for viewers who "need a place to land" in an image, the houses play an essential part.
I like the old photograph feel that the sepia gives it, and though it may be a touch dark for me, overall it's very well done. |

The lone person adds so much to this image, John, from a sense of scale, to a sense of emptiness. The architecture is also very enjoyable, and I think you've cropped and presented it just right. |

Thanks Ernie and Melanie, I agree that cropping down to more of a square crop does much improve this. I appreciate the input! |

I agree that the toning works well, and also I like the way the clouds come up behind the sculpture, adding a sense of drama. There's just the right amount of foreground. Overall, well presented. |

I see what you're after Gary, and I agree the vanishing line with the bike makes for an interesting image. The difficulty I'm often faced with when taking images like this, is what to do about the two sides. On the right, I might have cropped in just a bit closer, so we don't see so much of the street beyond the tree line. On the left, I'm undecided about the lack of detail; but I think perhaps a little more detail there along the houses would improve the image. |

The lichen is beautiful, Melanie, and the whole left side of the image I like very much; the line the trees form and the clouds, etc. The right most tree, I'm not sure about, I might have cropped it out, but that's a nitpick; I find this image and the mood it conveys very enjoyable as is. |

Thanks for the comments, Gary, which confirm my own impressions; pretty but I think the composition needed something more to take it to the next level. |

Welcome Ernie!
I know this spot, and find this beautiful in that its so unexpected, to see these beautiful tonalities in infrared without trees etc. I also like the sharpness, the stillness of the water, and reflections, and I think you've composed it just right. |
