Kind of like Ed's image, where "less is more", this works quite well for me. The silver tones are just lovely, and the detail and sharpness is there throughout, the branches making a nice pattern which guides me eye through the scene. |

I echo the others' comments - great graphical qualities, well laid out and presented. It's perhaps a bit too dark for me, but that's a personal preference, and it does add drama. Well done. |

I like the scene, Don.
I'm having trouble though with the face of the lighter colored building, and the lower right, which look almost like a simplify filter was applied, or something which caused an almost blurry out of focus effect. Other parts of the image look fine, so this has me scratching my head. I would be curious if others notice this. |

Have to ask, Darrell, where?
Other than that, my immediate reaction is the "ping-pong" effect - where am I supposed to look? The sky is too dramatic and contrasty, it takes away from the dunes, and not natural-dramatic, but pushed a bit in processing. I think the nearly split crop you've chosen also contributes to this reaction.
For me, either a less dramatic sky, even just slightly, or shifting the crop to where the emphasis is on either the sand or sky, would improve. |

Nice minimalist image Ed, and as usual, perfectly composed. I think the holes actually contribute to the composition, adding interest. But I like where you've placed the two shells, and then there's a crease balancing the image on the left side. Sometimes the "nothing special" images are the most special. |

I'd echo the others' comments in that its a great scene, love the stairs especially. What I might have done here is wait for another person to enter the scene that might make for a more interesting contribution, ie, someone sitting at one of the tables. Otherwise, I think it's stronger without the man. Nice street photography. |

Going along with Gary's comments, I think moving in closer on this scene, cropping in closer, adds to the feeling of intimacy and tranquility. Further, as the sky really isn't contributing to this scene, why not crop that out too? Personal taste, perhaps.
You've place the rotunda perfectly, and I love the shadows and overall feel of this Palli. |

Beautiful, but also perplexing, to me. My eye is going up and enjoying the tall trees, but I'm also getting a ping-pong effect with the stop sign. It's large enough to be more than a distraction, but not so large to become the subject. It's placement near the center also seems to add to its prominence.
You mentioned competitions, and one thing a judge might have a problem with is the leaning house on the right -- likely due to the wide angle focal length. It's the darkest thing in the image, and is somewhat noticeable. Very interesting image Gary and lots to enjoy. |

I echo the others' comments Melanie, it's a lovely scene, and a good subject for infrared. One thing I would add is that the crop, with the right hand side going up through the cloud, feels a little distracting to me, not sure why it draws me away from the shed, probably just me. I feel like I want it cropped in just a little closer to the shed. Very nice though. |

As the others have said, Craig, it's a great use of the vine, I've attempted images like this with varying success, but I like this.
I'm wondering a little about the depth of field, and if a wider aperture, softening the background, might have worked even better. There's enough going on back there such that it's a little bit distracting. |

Like you said, Gary, the joy is in seeing the different interpretations. Yours is much more dramatic, almost eery. It's a little further removed from what drew me to the scene, but I think most would find it more compelling. Thanks for the input. |

I like your version Palli! Especially on the sky, that hadn't occured to me. Thanks for the input. |
