I like this for the graphical qualities; the lines, and shadows of lines, the circular Starbucks sign, great job in seeing and expressing this, and I think Ed's crop is even better.
For me, the man is less successful, and I might have waited for someone more interesting to me, to enter the scene. But either way, having the person there does add an essential element to this scene. |

I can certainly identify with this one, definitely of my style! A beautiful landscape with a great sense of place, and the storm adds some dynamics. As its very much a side to side image, there's nothing that takes us into the scene, I think this might work even better as more of a pano, with a little cropped off both top and bottom.
Some might say to boost the contrast of the clouds to get more drama, but that can quickly get to be too much, and I like this softer more natural portrayal. |

It looks like you got down on one knee, a favorite perspective of mine also when shooting railroad tracks. The train coming towards us is what makes this. I agree with both John's and Ed's suggestions. |

The black coffee with little white specks is such a natural for black and white, and your high contrast treatment is just right. You've got the one handle at exactly 1/3, and then a second one on the far right which plays off it, works.
I do find the person's shirt to be a bit of a distraction; I might have blurred it more or reduced the contrast, - or done something about the palm tree ;)
But overall a great shot and I also like the old feel the sepia gives to this. |

I agree with the other comments, good perspective and treatment of this subject, the detail and repeating shapes and curves really come alive in black and white. The clouds add interest, but of course the exposure of the sky shooting into the sun like that is always a challenge. Very good! |

I agree with the comments regarding the excess of detail, etc, and like Craig's edit. But what I really like about this, is despite all the busy-ness, it's really a minimalistic scene, with the little piece of fence making the image, for me. There is also an interesting curve in the center of the image, formed by the edge of the trees and the shadow (it shows up better in the thumbnail of Craig's); very nice! |

I echo the others' comments. There's a minimalist quality to this, just the windmill in the vastness of the open sky, that's very appealing. The vignette or edge darkening adds to this and is quite effective. I think it succeeds very well. |

I love the graphical qualities of this image, it's set up just right, and there's even a landscape beyond which leads the eye and adds interest. One thing I find a little odd, is the bottom part is high contrast, very black and white, while the upper part is softer tones of gray -- feels a little disjointed, but I'm not sure, maybe it's OK. Overall, compelling, well done. |

Lots and lots of texture and detail in this image, unusual for a flowing water shot, which are usually softer. But it's interesting and there's lots to enjoy, and the sepia adds a nice mood. |
