Thank you Trung. As a note, my reason for flipping the image is that I believe using the golden spiral is more effective when composing the image as opposed to the rule of thirds. The golden spiral tracks how our eyes move through an image, lower left corner up and through to the lower right. It puts the center of attention right where the viewer's eyes come to rest. |

Hi Al,
I have been to Japan (decades ago) and really liked the traditional culture where I was able to find it. This scene evokes memories of that more traditional side of the country which I found to be truly unique.
Studying the image I did find it a little busy but totally in context for the setting. I also like the infrared effect, along with the tint you used.
I really have only one suggestion - to lighten up the pond a bit. I can tell there are reflections in the water but they are very faint almost giveing the appearance of a black hole in the setting.
Other than a very nice and peaceful scene. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Thanks, Jeff. I struggled with contrast as too much contrast and the white chimney on the house became blown out and too little contrast, the image was flat. I can go back and revisit it. Add some in or perhaps more selective contrast.
Thanks again for your comments. |

Hi Robert,
As I see it a good image of Stonehenge, though I confess to liking the color version better.
I find mixed feelings about the image in monochrome. I the color version as I can tell it is likely either at sunrise or perhaps sunset. In the mono version however I do not get the same feeling and the stones appear (to me) unnaturally bright. I think darkening them a bit would give the image more tonal balance.
I took the original into Photoshop converted it and worked on it in an attempt to bring out the detail (character) in the stones. I would be interested in your thoughts. |

Hi Jeff.
I have been a big fan of the Lord of the Rings (books not movies) and this image evokes an image of the Misty Moors in the books. I have always like misty landscapes and this is no exception. In the original, to my eye, the sky is too bright almost blown out. I like the way you thought to darken it almost giving it the appearance of a night shot (or at least late evening). I do wonder if it might be a bit too dark.
This is a very moody picture that gives me a desire to look deeper into it (what is the mist hiding?) - that to my eye is good.
Thank you for sharing it with us Jeff. |

Good evening Trung,
I like the long exposure. I think it gives the light and clouds behind the building a soft appearance. To my eye you struck a good balance between light and dark with the light behind the building and an almost low key appearance for the rest of the image. To me the light appears almost like a crown, or perhaps a reminder that the building's best days are behind it?
I do not have any suggestions for imrpovement. Thank you for sharing it with us. |

Kristi this was to my eye a good catch. I like the monochrome version the better of the two. The story it tells me is almost like it might look in the mind of a person with real emotional issues - deteriorating, falling apart. It evokes a sense of sympathy for people who might feel that way about life with the window saying there is more to life but at the same time deteriorating walls closing in. Even as I sit here recovering from shoulder surgery anticipating healing and freedom from the pain, still, I can feel sometimes like the deteriorating walls of the stair well down are closing in on me - 79 next month.
To my eye your processing was well done and it is an evocative image expressing deep emotion. I have no suggestions for improvement.
Thank you for sharing it with us. |
