Thanks Albert. I will check that out. As I looked at the original I got the impression of almost like steam about to boil over using the original clouds. I thought it added to the effect given the current situation. |

Hi again Robert. In light of your comments and the comments of the others in the group I reworked the image using the original sky. I would be interested in your thoughts about whiter or not it helped. Please see my response to Robert for the updated version of the image. |

Thank you Albert. I agree about the color version but thought Mono was worth a try. I did revisit it using the original sky. Please see my response to Robert. I would be interested in your thoughts about that version. |

Thank you for your input Robert. In retrospect, as I told Jeff, I never thought to really try the image with the original sky. In light of all of the inputs I received I revisited the image using the original sky. Your thoughts will be much appreciated.

Hi Kristi,
I really like the subject and the "aura" behind the man. To my eye a really good catch on your part, perhaps telling a story of absolute concentration or maybe a moment for prayer.
My issue is with the halo around him - which may have come from the backlighting. It gives me a sense of this being a composite image superimposing him over the background. I also find the the skin tones a bit flat.
I tried some adjustments to the image to play down the halo and give the face a little more depth. I also added a very soft vignette to cent the attention of the performer without losing the (but muting) the aura. |

Hi Jeff,
This is really interesting. My first thought was of snow and pieces of coal that might have been dropped as a person was taking more coal into a stove to warm a house. I will confess that I find the original version (color) rather unremarkable. Your submitted version is, to my eye, much more engaging. Great vision on your part!
I like your processing of the image from the color version. I agree it is abstract and it gives a contrast between the black rough balls and what appears to be soft fluffy snow drifts.
A very imaginative treatment, thanks very much for sharing it with us. |

Hi Robert,
I have come late to the discussion and have not read the other member's comments. For my part, to my eye, this is a good PJ shot that you have post processed well. It captures a mood and setting telling the story of a different culture.
I admit that I live in a very privileges situation in this country. Others not so much and you have captured the feeling well. What I fine interesting is that if you asked the child in the photo they would have most likely been reasonably happy. Over my life I have heard people speak of going to poor countries and seen such living conditions, yet the people seem to have a sense of peace and happiness about them that belies the appearance of their situation. This, I sense, might one such situation.
I also like the lighter sky more the dark sky in the image version. The dark sky looks incongruous compared to the lighting of the landscape.
Thank you for sharing the image of a very different culture from what we see day to day. |

Thank you for the comments Jeff. I looked at the image from your point of view and I do think you have a good point. The original sky was kind of lack luster to me, however I never rally tried to work with it. I will do that and see how things turn out, thanks again. |
