Thanks Kristi. The interesting part of this image was that is was taken with a Nikon D800 using an older Nikon AF 20-35 f2.8 lens during a trip to Ireland in 2014. Lesson learned - don't always need to use the latest and greatest to get good images. |

I like this scene - I certainly agree with Jeff about the words that come to mind as I look at the image. In fact, one word that seems to fit (Lord of the Rings fan) is Caradhras the cruel - at the pass the fellowship tried to negotiate and failed.
I would agree completely about the contrast. As I looked at and studied the image there is a sense, to my eye, of disquiet. I think that is because the tonality seems flat to me - and I do believe more contrast would help. I copied the image to PS and worked with exposure, brightness/contrast and the Camera Raw Filter to make some adjustments.
I would be interested in your thoughts on the changes.
All in all a very nice scene and again one that leads me back into one of my favorite books. Thank you for sharing it with us Albert. |

I really like this image Kristi. Again the story telling aspect of photography is, at least to my mind, it's most powerful attribute, and this image is in my humble opinion a great illustration of that. I did not get the image so much of a ghost as of a young woman remembering the house in which she spent her childhood, or perhaps thinking of home during an extended absence.
With Jeff and Robert, I cannot comment on how you created the image, but I can say it worked, to my eye, it worked very well. I agree whole heartedly with Jeff about her eyes - wonderful.
I great image Kristi thank you so much for your effort and for sharing it with us. |

I have over the last few years transitioned more and more to storytelling with my work. This is an (to my eye) example of just that. I have been musing since the start of COVID about people afraid of the disease yet choosing to pollute their lungs with cigarette smoke. As a former smoker I know how much better I felt after I stopped in '68.
To my eye you handled the texture, DOF, and framing very nicely. What I would have liked to have seen better was his eye. In the image his eye is very dark. I tried to lighten just the eye a bit to give a little better sense of the reflected light. I wonder how that worked for you, or if you see the difference?
Kristi had a good point about the half button but I had not noticed it until I read her comments - my attention was absorbed by the gentleman's expression, the mask and the cigarillo.
I will also add my kudos for asking to take his portrait.
I great image with a strong story in my mind - thank you for sharing it with us. |

I agree with what all others have said. It tells a very interesting story to me. Your adjustments to the man in the image versus the original worked for me. In the original I was hard pressed to find them looking out of the door. In your adjusted version he is much more prominent.
However in your original version the statue had a more pleasing aspect to my eye. Making it darker did not work as well to my eye, too dark.
As I said, to my eye the Image tells a good story and your modification to the door and the man make it a stronger story still.
A good eye and a good catch Robert. Thanks for sharing it with us. |

Thank you sir. I did try localized lightening of the man in the image per yours and Jeff's suggestion. I would be interested if you think it was enough. I was concerned about pixelation of the man so I hesitated to go too far. |
