Hi Kristi. Thanks for your work in the image. You have a point about the sky. I did rework the image and submitted it in my response to Adrian. I think yours works as well as my own revision.
Thanks again. |

Hi Jen. I like this landscape - particularly its simplicity. I also, for my part, really like the foreground detail in the image giving me a real sense of context for the trees in the field. The sky is also, as I see it, a real plus for the image giving me a sense a drama to an otherwise static image.
As I see it you handled the focus, tonality and contrast nicely.
All in all I really do like the image and appreciate your sharing it with us Jen. Thank you. |

A very dramatic (to my eye) sky in particular, and image in general. Looking at the image I really get the feel that a storm is brewing. I almost expected to see farm animals heading to the barn for shelter - very realistic to me since I spent 4 years in a school in Northern Indiana and saw this kind of sky several times - not to many thankfully. The last time I saw such a sky we had a tornado go by, we escaped damage but it left a lasting impression.
To me, the infrared treatment worked well making the sky very dramatic. I also like how the trees at the edge of what appears to be a body of water appear. I think your change to the color balance work nicely.
Thank you for sharing it with us Albert. |

A very nice, to my eye, double portrait that tells me a story of relationship between the man and his wife. This was a great catch - a moment in time. Of the two versions I must confess that I like the original better. It gives me more detail of the context of the portrait. In addition the lack of the pattern in her head scarf does not help or improve (to my eye) the image. I did like seeing the pattern in the original - a "folksy" look missing (to me) in the second version. I know the white in the pattern is bright, but to my view does not take away from either of the people in the image.
I like this a lot and am grateful you shared it with us Kristi. Thank you. |

Hi Kristi. For my part, I really like your treatment as it keeps the sense (to me) of the story and confusion but also adds and element of mystery to the image. My issue with your version is the same as with Adrian's - the man on the left side cut down the middle - though in your version he is not as obvious.
A very nice treatment. |

Hi Adrian. This as has been mentioned a very busy image. Overall I do think you handled the tonality, focus, and contrast pretty effectively.
It is a very busy image with lots of action making it difficult to focus on one point or another especially with the rifles(?) forming lines going in multiple directions sort keep my eye wandering all over, unable to settle at any point. Still I like the story it tells of people fighting, the confusion of hand to hand combat as shown here, particularly in light of my career in the Military.
My chief issue with the image is your crop. I would have liked a tighter crop on the left so the man on the far left is not in the image at all, or a wider crop so all of him is in the image. Being cut in half as he was did not work well for me.
Having said all of that, to my eye you were able to pull a lot out of the original and except for the issue with the crop I like the image. Thanks for sharing it with us. |

Hi Colin,
I find this to be an interesting study in architecture both of the buildings and the bridge in the distance. I like the way you handled the focus (DOF), contrast and tonality. I also find the texture and shadows of/on the water interesting.
For my part, I would like to have seen a focal point such as a boat or something on which to focus. I also wonder if the sky is as shot or placed into the image. Was it an overcast day?
Thank you for sharing it with us. |
