There is simplicity and then simplicity. In your image Jen I truly like the simplicity of the boat in the water and the time of day (evening or early morning?). To my thinking your post processing was spot on.
I think Albert has a good point about using a longer shutter speed, however I also like the texture of the water as you presented it in the image. To my eye it gives me more a sense of the context in which the boat is located. I also really like the detail of the people on the boat. I could come up with a number of stories about what is happening leading me to study the image as I work out the details - the reason I so much prefer images that tell me a story.
I also get a great sense of calmness in the image.
Thank you very much for sharing it with us Jen. |

I love this image Albert. The sense of place and feel of the synagogue in the snow as it is framed by the trees is, to my eye, really great. I think the post processing on the image was well chosen bringing out a good amount of detail in the image without it being too stark.
My only suggestion (sorry for the nitpicking) is that the vertical lines are slightly off giving the image a very slightly tilted appearance. Perhaps a slight crop just to straighten the image.
A wonderful image of the building and well chosen (as I see it) context to bring out the best in the image.
Thank you very much for sharing it with us. |

To my eye a wonderful landscape image Adrian. As with Colin's I get a greater sense of depth in the color image. The original - well for my part I am glad it was not the image you chose. Both the color and the mono version of the color leave me with a more complete feeling if you will.
I really like the clarity of the reflection of the mountains. For me the sky, especially in the color version, is wonderful. For my part I wish you had been able to maintain the detail of the sky as it appears in the color version in the monochrome version. It is there but not as prominent as in the color version.
I would, for myself, consider both to be wall hangers. Very nice. Thank you for sharing them with us Adrian. |

To my eye this is a great shot Colin. I love the spread of the wings and the detail in the owl. I do agree with Adrian - I like the color version better. However I do like this version as well. I will say that, at least to me, the color version appears to have more depth.
I am particularly fascinated with the detail in the feathers and the clarity of the detail in the wings and face of the owl - the mouse not so much but for the tail.
Both images tell me a story of predator and prey giving me the opportunity to build something around them that will leave me to think more deeply about what I am seeing.
Thank you for sharing them with us Colin. Again welcome to the group :-) |

I like the stark simplicity of the image. The technical quality, to my eye, is excellent.
I do wish you had given the scrub more room around the edges and perhaps a little closer to the center of the image. Both the scrub and its shadow come too close to the edge of the image both with and without the vignette for my eye. I have an unbalanced feeling as I look at the image.
I do like your second version better as it brings out the texture of the wind waves in the sand better.
Thank you for sharing it with us. |

I kept the other things in to give it a sense of context for the window as I saw it, also the contrast between nature and civilization. However I think you also have a good point. Thanks for your input. |
