I think you caught the emotion well. I picked up on the title when I read the title and saw the image - missing man formation. It is a poignant moment. At issue for me is that at the top of the image you can only see the horses rear ends. To My eye, I would have preferred to see all of the cowboys sitting on the horses. It would have been nice to see the two riders faces, but it was not a necessity to my eye.
It is, to my mind, a great story telling image but sadly the fact that I can only see the horses buts in the line at the top kind of ruins it for me. I would be interested in seeing the original.

This is an image that, to my eye, really tells a story and encourages my mind to create one. I love the interaction between the two people. To me it is a great photojournalistic shot with a lot of emotion and human interest. I find myself wondering about that he is showing her. What is his relationship to the young lady, and more.
To my eye you hit a home run with this one. I would have loved to have been there just to watch both people as they were sharing a story and a moment with each other. |

Hi Don, with the others I like this image. For my eye, however I would have liked less foreground and a little more sky. The pattern in the salt flats is so regular in its repetition that there is, for me, more than I like visible. I copied the image into Photoshop and did nothing more than crop it some to give more of a balance between the foreground and the sky. I would be interested in your thoughts.
Having said that, your processing was very good, great tonality and clarity. I also liked your treatment of the sky and mountains to bring out the best of all of the elements of the image.
Very nice done, thank you for sharing it with us. |

I like this image for the geometric patterns of the light and shadows. I must agree with comment that the more you look at the image the more you see. It is intriguing to me.
I would say that until I read the comments about the foliage I had not even noticed it, and I do not find it distracting at all, but this is my eye. The one minor exception to that is the one branch hanging down in the arch - that I would have removed, but that is all.

My first thought about this image was WOW!!!! This was a great catch. I have shot marital arts classes where there is a lot of motion - that is what (to my eye) makes the image.
This image has it all for me - the sense of motion in the blurred feet and legs. the clarity in the body and face, the tonality. I also like how the dancer is the sole focus of the image, there is nothing around her to take my eye away from her.
An incredible catch John and to my eye very nicely processed - thank you so much for sharing it with us. |

I have been there as well, in the fall when the trees were in full Fall colors. This, to my eye, is a wonderful winter scene. I have read the other comments and I disagree about removing the bushes in the lower right. To me they add the aspect of a frame for the river leading my eye to follow the river up to the central mountain peak. Your touch of darkening the clouds worked well for me.
Great black and white image Jack, sort of reminds me of something Ansel Adams might have done.

Thank you for your comments. I chose to keep the black spot because it was part of the whole scene of the deserted house. However, I also can see what has been said and frankly toning that area down would have made the image better. Thank you for your inputs - that is why I take part in this group - points well taken. |
