As I see this image, it is to me a great street scene.
My one suggestion would be to bring up the shadows. I say that because the person on the three wheeler blends into the background. I can see there is someone there but no detail that I can make out.
Other than that, it is a wonderful scene, a very nice vignette of life in Cambridge (England I assume). Thank you for sharing it with us Jen. |

To my eye this makes a very interesting contrast between nature and the work of man. It makes me want to go there and see the place for myself.
Your treatment is very effective. For the record, to my eye I am not sure what the banding you are referring to is, and I am not even sure I see it - possibly, but not sure.
Over all an interesting image. Thank you for sharing it with us. |

I like the concept of the image John. It tells me a story of intense focus on whatever is in his hand. I like the story telling aspect the image.
However, the large object in the right corner competes with my focus. I am caught between the man at the table and trying to figure out what the object might be. Perhaps if you had moved left to minimize whatever that object might be …

The image is definitely stark in its simplicity.
To my eye the vignetting does help the image. I find the image does seem to make the plants protruding from the sand standout. I also like the fact that the surface to the sand (waves and whatnot) is very subtle making the plant stand out more distinctly.
Your rendition works well for me telling me a story of persistence, kind of like "bloom where you are planted".
