I am amazed at the level of detail in the feathers and the eyes of the bird, well done. As I look at the image I can find no suggestions to improve the technical quality (focus, DoF, lighting, etc.)
The issue for me is that the bird gets lost among to 'stars' of the lava because the tonality of the lava and the bird's feathers are so close to each other. I have to study the image to see the detail of the Heron. I believe the image would be greatly improved were you able to find a way to darken, without removing, the stars.
Still all in all a very sharp image of the heron. Thank you for sharing it with us. |

Your effort to capture the timeless element of the boat under full sale worded very nicely for me. I have always loved the sea (spent 6 years at sea in the US Navy). I particularly like how you caught the timing of the wind in the sales - they are taut actually showing their texture. I also like the human element in the image - the people on the boat.
I only have a nitpicking suggestion and that is to tone down the bright spot on the hull from the sun - but I admit that is something more of a preference than anything else.
In my humble opinion it is a rally nice and timeless image, a wall hanger.

I just really like this genre of image - especially in B&W. To my eye you captured the detail of the flower and the texture of the petals wonderfully. I find the leaves at the bottom to almost like a pedestal for the flower.
I can find not suggestions for improvement as I see it.
A wonderful image thank you for sharing it. |

The Arc is certainly magnificent in so many ways. For the Arc itself, to my eye, you captured it very nicely with good detail even in this version of the image. I also really like the tonality of the image. It is detailed yet also more subtle in it tones - is it the effect of film vs. digital?
My one issue with the image is the cars and motor bikes at the bottom. For me they detract from the magnificence of the Arc. I know it would be difficult to get an image without them, still they do lessen the overall effect for me.
I am glad that someone else in the group uses film from time to time, I do not feel like the only "dinosaur" left in Photography :-)

For my part I find this to be an interesting study in texture, light and shadow. To my eye the technical aspects (lighting, DoF, Focus) are all excellent for what you appeared to be trying to do.
With respect to the placement of the clump, my eye stops at it, then travels on toward the left of the image and the shadows from the clump which then lead it out of the frame.
I tried flipping the image so my eye travels from left to right where the clump is, focusing my attention at the clump which is the center of my interest.
I would interested in your thoughts.
Thank you for sharing it with us.
