To me this gives me a great sense of place and of the stormy evening. I like the contrast and the tonal quality of the image. I also like the composition. I agree with Darrel about the chimney, but I think I would simply darken it so it did not look like a spot light above the building.
Nicely done, thank you for sharing it with us Jen.

Frankly, I am not ver fond of bird shots these days - mostly because I have seen soooooo many of them.
This image is an exception for me. The detail in the feathers given by the back lighting is incredible. I love the pose and the over all feel of the image. I also think the DOF is perfect for the image. I am not sure what you did in the post processing besides covert to B&W, but to my eye whatever you did worked and worked well.
A wonderful image perfectly named. Thanks so much for sharing it with us. |

This image reminds me of technique I heard about but have not tried. An HDR image taken into the grunge effect and then converted to B&W. I like the starkness of the image, the feel that it gives me, yes and the stories it could tell. to my eye it feels similar to an Ansel Adams image.
I would like to have seen more of the context in which you found the boat. I does focus my eye on the boat as the central focal point, but the story telling aspect would have been enhanced for me by more of the area around the boat.
I find the starkness and sense of decay in the image haunting. I want to know more, to look deeper - to understand the story. To my mind that is the core of photography. Thank you very much for sharing it with us. |

I find the image to be an interesting mix of shapes and textures. I do like the separation from the background and was surprised that you used f/16, as I had assumed as I first looked at the image it was shot around f/2.8.
The technical aspects of the image (focus, exposure, DOF, and contrast all work very nicely for me.
To my eye a bit more of the context would have helped me to envision the scene better.
All in all an interesting image - thank you for sharing it with us. |

I like this scene a great deal, and the lower branch is interesting. I also find the sky behind the tree greatly improves the image to my eye. A plain bald sky, in my opinion would have been okay, but the clouds and their contrast work well for me.
I wish I could come up with some helpful suggestions - I cannot - thanks for sharing it with us. |

I can see what you mean about the similarity to David's work. Thank you, I consider that a complement. You might check out the rework I did based upon Jack's comments. I would be interested in your thoughts - the same, better, worse? |

Thank you for the suggestions. I had cropped it. but it appears not enough. I did some rework - what do you think? It is a subtle change, but it is lighter on my computer than it is after I upload the image. It does bring out his eyes more.
