Bill, the presence of the sun increases the interest of the image. It ended up almost as a silhouette since it is back lith. It looks massive indeed. Very sharp. I just wonder if you had considered HDR ?? |

Vella, Cormorants are very aggressive birds when it is for capturing and swallowing a whole fish. This bird is in the matting season, since it is the time of the year when they gey this blu/green hue coloration of the eyes, to attract the females. It looks like the fish is as big as him, but they will juggle the fish, throw it in the air until it is aligned and ready to start the swallowing process. About your PP, the strong darkening of the background, just giving light to the bird, does not look natural, for Nature Photography, but it is good fro our PID DD groups. The nimage is sharp. |

Gary, we (Erik and I) also were at the Homestead Rodeo. It was a full house (sold out). This is a full action image of the bull rider. It is sharp. Photographing rodeo is a very challenging event, since we have no control of the background, nor we can change vantage point to avoid distracting elements. In other words, it is what it is. Additionally, even if we shoot wide open, the separation of the main subject and the background is very small, therefore unavoidable. Any way, we do it because it is a lot of fun, and sometimes we get very good shots. |

Erik, whatever is the reason of the blue discoloration it does not matter. You got it (and Dave as well !!). There is nothing that beat's being in the right place at the right time, and with the right tools. Very interesting pose, pretty much looking at you guy's. The light was good. Now. the image looks slightly soft to me specially in the plumage of the body of the birds, not so the eyes of the white egret (not on the breeding plumage). Perhaps the camera took focus there, but my guess is that the f/6.3 should have taken care of that. Great and unique shot anyway. |

Mike, you are right. The image shows dull colors and noise and it is soft most likely created by the fog. Many times we have to be happy that we saw them, and even happier if we can record them. It is a nice image of their behavior. |

Pei-Fan, obviously this image is a follow up to your November 2023 image. This birds are really interesting since they like honey but are not afraid to the bees. Do they eat the bees as well. Your PP did bring out detail in the feathers and color. The image is sharp.

Sarita, this is an interesting woodpecker I have never seen. The closest to it in the Americas, specially with respect to the crown in the head, is the pileated woodpecker. What a beautiful plumage. The image is sharp. I agree with Kathy's adjustments. |

Kathy, this is a Tricolored Heron in breeding plumage. The little blue heron has a grey/dark belly and does not get this white feather in the head. Indeed the illumination shows that you used a flash (with a better beamer to extend reach). The image is sharp, but need a little more light to bring out color and detail. I added light to the shadows.
The Alligator Farm in St Augustin is a must stop for bird photographers visiting or being in Florida in the matting/breeding season {January to April). |

Jim, first of all it is great to be able to do a magno crop and still keep good detail/resolution in the image as it is proven here. Obviously the 61 megapixels sensor helps. Unfortunately the light conditions were not optimal since the Bufflehead ducks have beautiful colors in their head, and this light conditions did not do justice. I did add light to the shadows and was able to bring out the colors. |

Mike, there is no way to avoid the blurred background when you use 1000 mm wide open lens. More so since I was shooting from a hill, down to the water. The white spots are the little white stones in the ground also out of focus. In Nature photography removal of items is not allowed (I know we are not a pure Nature group, but I always keep my nature images "pure". |

Jack, this is a triple whammy image: BIF, Bird with a catch and bird in flight touching the water with the tip of the wing. It can not get any better than this. I tried to reduce the highlight area in the neck and left shoulder of the bird, but it is completely overexposed with no residual pixels to work with. |

Kathleen, indeed an unconventional vantage point and crop which makes your brain work and find a way to orient the image. It really shows the struggle this woman is going through to get the baby and carriage up the stairs. Denotes that the elevators were out of service. The B&W almost sepia conversion, works well here. |

Bruce, with your image I had to do some research about the fries. The first question was who introduced them to Holland: France or Belgium ? Dutch fries are not slim, like the very American French fries - instead, they are broad, strong, and a little chunky. They're not served in a pesky small container but an ingenious cardboard cone contraption sometimes adorned with the crown jewel: sauce holders. Dutch fries are never submitted to a freezer's cold blasts; instead, they are cut and served the same day. They are plunged into boiling oil a minimum of two times, resulting in a crispy outer fry and fluffy inner fry. And finally, for the thick and chunky Dutch fries, one squirt of sauce is not enough. For reasons unbeknownst to the masses, the sauce can only be heaped on top, saturating the top layer into a saucy mess, and neglecting the bottom layer to be distraughtly sauceless. The most common sauce is mayonnaise.
Are they called friet or patat ?
Your image is very sharp. Indeed the lady in the middle seems to be in control. Your vantage point was high, but you were able to include everything is needed for this image, the people and the heaps amount of fries in the background, above the friers. I did have fries in Amsterdam once. |

Ed, Margarita Island was a beautiful and sought after tourist destination in Venezuela. The most beautiful beaches are there. The people and the food were indeed special. The past few years the area has been taken by the Iranian, together with the Russians and the Chinese. Iran have set up terrorist training camps approved by the government of Maduro. It is the closest point to the USA in addition to Cuba. Enough of politics, let's get down to the interesting image. All the objects in the cart are religious depicting Virgin Mary (Coromoto) the patron of Venezuela, and Dr Jose Gregorio Hernandez. He was the poor's people physician. He was killed at a very young age by a car. People claim that he had granted many miracles and has been considered as a Saint. Finally, in 2021 he was beatified By Pope Francisco.
About the light bulb, it is impossible to deemer it down without falling into the grey proble. The image is sharp. |

Pinaki, it is well known that the Hindus worship the cow since they believe they are a gift from god. Cows provide with milk, butter, cheese, fuel, and a cleanser, and more but require nothing in return. These animals do more for humans than any other animal to the Hindu people. The cow has also been associated with various deities, notably Shiva (whose steed is Nandi, a bull), Indra (closely associated with Kamadhenu, the wish-granting cow), Krishna (a cowherd in his youth), and goddesses in general (because of the maternal attributes of many of them). In this image the cow takes the space to park a car with no problem, and they are allowed to eat the grass on the streets of they are fed by the people. This cow is covered probably to protect from the weather. Indeed an interesting image. |

Bev, interesting image showing the strict marching routine and the way they hold their weapon. I am guessing this is from a negative or a scanned printed image because of the nature of the sharpness, or perhaps from a very low resolution digital camera. I believe it would have been a better picture had it been taken vertically and include the whole length of the front man. |

Bud, we were in Yellowstone from the 14th to the 19th. Only saw one of the black wolfs lying in the snow, thought a super magnifying and sharp scope (my reach was only 840 mm). It looked like a dot in the landscape. We heard that after we left the whole pack was visible keeping a bison in the water. Your image is sharp with the perfect landscape. Lucky you guys. |

Mary, nice underwater image showing us the natural ecosystem. Indeed you have accumulated an extraordinary expertise in underwater photography, which requires in addition to expensive equipment (breathing and photography) a good physical condition. I have never done it, and probably never will.
Colors tend to be very dull due to the absorption of the colors as you go deeper in the water. The image is sharp, and your PP brought back the natureal colors. |
