Ian, the team has made suggestions. My only critique is the amputated hand which seems to be coming from nowhere. The dark left sleeve overlaps with the background giving this optical effect. Overall, it is a great image and the colors match perfectly. It is sharp. |

Erik, another nature great shot. both birds are in foccus, with open mouth and with a non distracting background with a few clouds which is better than a just plain blue sky. Using the masking brushes in ACR I just added a little light to the birds, and a touch of dehaze to the sky. |

Vella, here we can apply the expression "never underestimate the complexity of simplicity". If you see the construction without knowing what it represents, it is just a bunch of concrete structures, but the intention is stronger than that. I prefer the original image without the warm adjustment, since it represents cold structures. The image is sharp. Perhaps a different vantage point, showing the walkways between the towers of concrete and the different heights of them, and less of the buildings in the background, would have a stronger impact. |

Bill, is addition of being in the photography "business" (way of speech) you are in the "Taking Risk Business" for being there. As I said to Gary, this month we have three iPhone images participation. Great creativity. Perhaps, I would have used a smaller image of the moon, but again; it is in the eyes of the beholder. Great B&W interpretation and filter effect, in addition to the composition. |

Gary, this month we have three iPhone images participation. It is really amazing how fast this technology has evolved, and it is the "camera" we always carry. Lucky you to get this premium seats. In the good old days, the pharmaceutical and technology companies would treat us Docs with something like this, but now is considered unethical. Oh well
The image is sharp with a shutters speed of 1/267 on this super fast sport. Great action capture at peak time. I only lowered slightly the brightness on the ice and now we can see the scratchs left by the skies on the ice as well |

Pei-Fan, I am sorry that you decided to leave the group. Your two images are very unique showing us birds that are not common in America.
This image of the Bee Eaters is so nice, and sharp. It must have been raining very hard for the rain drops leave a trail at 1/250 sec. The interaction of the two birds is like they are having a conversation, and "she" is telling "him" not to show off in front of the other girls. The colors are also very vivid. |

Randall , good BIF image, captured with only 1/1600 sec @ 840 mm, which is a great accomplishment being so sharp. About the dark shadow , there is only so much you can do to keep the image looking natural and real, knowing the light conditions. I believe there is room for a little adjustment adding light to the shadows so you can see a little more detail in the darks. Much more light would make tha image very nosisy in the darks and unrealistic. BTW, I added a little more real state in the front of the bird to take him off center and give more space to fligh into. |

Sarita, The Bee Eaters are very fast birds, and they tend to return to the same spot every time they are out catching bees or else. The image was created at 750 mm (D500 crop sensor + 1.5 magnification) and you mention that the image was cropped and then processed in Topaz Denoise and Sharpen. The end image is very soft and with no details in the feathers, having an almost painterly effect, probably consequense to the crop and the deterioration caused by DeNoise. You did not give us the original image out of camera to compare. Also, I think there is too much empty space caused by the orientation of the crop. There are 4 birds, and I think that the forth looking away from the action is not adding anything, plus it is said that the rule of odds is better. I did two different crops removing the forth bird for discussion sake. |

Jim and Kathy, ACR stands for Adobe Camera Raw in Photoshop filters. LightRoom is the same machine but on steroids. They are similar but LightRoom is structured to be more user friendly.
I have written a word document with images and explanation which is too big for here. I will send it to you all by email. |

Now, I applied DeNoise AI 20 % and at the same time sharpening 50%. I was able to get a much sharper image than yours, but again, it is not tack sharp. Go and figure it out !! |

Jim here I took the original image and cropped it to the same size as the one I did my first comment on, and just added light to the shadows and increased exposure only. You will see the noise in the image and the fact that is not sharp. I did not remove the yellow food on his beak. |

As I said in my comment,it is not motion, it is the combination of lens+TC+Very High ISO that when you apply DeNoise AI really degrades the image that can not be rescued by Topaz Sharpen AI. |

Kathy, good capture of the Crested Caracara in resting position )one leg up and hiding). Nice environmental background and sharp. A little off center is also good. The bird is dark and we do not see detail in the feathers, and also has a slight blue hue. Using several of the adjustment/masking brushes in ACR I added some light to the body, removed the blue hue and now we can see more detail in the feathers. |

Jim, Cardinals are one of my favorite birds. Lucky you to have those berries growing in your garden and therefore, the variety of visitors you get. In spite of using the Topaz Sharpen AI, the birds still looks slightly soft, but there is only so much you can do with an image created under those circumstances: TC and high ISO. I did crop the image, since I think the Cardinal is perfectly centered in the frame, and also removes part of the berries which slightly overpower the bird. |

Kathleen, I like the crop, but I tend to prefer the color version, and the light area in front of the horses is not so apparent. My guess is that the girl is trying to imitate the horses steps. |

Pinaki, I am sure that the bubble maker was there for a while, so you may have had time to walk around him and avoid the people in the background and this way have a less intrusive distractions. He is is focus therefore the attention is on him. I kind of agree with Ed's observations. |

Bruce, interesting image for sure, you were pretty far away as shown on the original image. Your PP brought out detail in the man standing on the other side of the subway platform. I think your crop used has a lot of empty space overpowering the circle and man in the other side. A tighter crop makes the circle and man stand out better. You had 200 mm reach, but you used the widest setup of 28mm. My guess is that you did not have time to think and change your settings. This is a real shot from the hip !! |

Ed, a color image for a change. Yes, it looks like something got the attention of the kid and he is rushing that way. There is some motion in the image since you only used 1/40 sec, but goes with the story. To my eyes, the colors are very saturated. I tried to reduce the saturation and change the white balance, but the neon colors overpowers both, so I am going back to your basics, a B&W interpretation |

Ronald, the Medieval fighters are really engaged, but the microphone on the right side contender takes away the possible resemblance to real times (I know it is a reenactment). They should try to camouflage it better. Both man have their leg off the ground implying movement. The image is sharp. The B&W interpretation suits well to the image. |

Don, great action shot. Everybody is in motion and 5 of the 6 players are in the air. Very sharp. Ball is completely visible. The only way to get a frontal image is having a camera behind the net with a remote control. |

Adrian, as you have very well said, good Orangutan pictures can only be obtained at the zoo's or specialized centers where they roam, as is your image. There is a very intense interaction of the mother and the kid. She is obviously very protective. Indeed at these venues it is very difficult to create images that exclude the "man made" items. In this image I agree that the center of attention is in the eyes of the kid. Your last crop I think is too tight. I would include the face of the mother in spite of that she is not looking at the camera. As is usual in nature photography, shoot until you "run out of film" and to capture the decisive moment. |
