4 Jul 23 Reply Ian, never underestimate the complexity of simplicity Jul 24th
4 Jul 23 Reply Bill, one lucky shot if any.... Jul 10th
4 Jul 23 Reply Bill, the shadow of the second palm tree overlaps with the one in the front beyond the blue and yellow chairs. Because of my vantage point is not so obvious. Your added light makes the individuals more visible Jul 9th
4 Jul 23 Reply Vella, 22 mm ?? so this must be a super crop, or you were standing next to him ?? Jul 7th
4 Jul 23 Comment Vella, this is a mean looking Simian ( I am not sure of what subgroup belongs). The eyes are looking directly at you. Must have been a long lens since the foreground and background are soft. Since it is a portrait/close up we do not have any information about the environment. Jul 6th
4 Jul 23 Comment Guy, this is a very lovely image. Your planning of obtaining a group of backlit flowers created a nice contour of their stem and the actual flowers, which are very sharp and colorful. I see that the light areas are a little over illuminated and taking prevalence. I just lowered a little the brightness and now it looks more balanced, and of course; I had to FLIP IT !! (here I am again..) Jul 4th
4 Jul 23 Reply Bill, great "cleaning" job indeed Jul 3rd
4 Jul 23 Comment Erik, the only way to capture images as these in sequence is by having a sharp eye and speed, no to mention knowledge of your tools. It is amazing as how the hawk is flying in the up direction with the talons forward in preparation to catch the meat which was accomplished. Jul 3rd
4 Jul 23 Comment Ian, you did a very good job creating a combination of color to make the Ukraine flag stand out over the rest of the image in B&W. Your work of separation was very good since there is no bleeding in either direction. Very sharp image and great composition. Jul 3rd
4 Jul 23 Comment Bill, the only color missing is white for tomorrow's celebration. It is interesting the angle of presentation you selected which is completely off the verticals and horizontals. The image is very sharp. I like how the chairs how the image looked like before the major cleaning. The wide angle lens makes the chairs overpowering the rest of the elements in the image, which I think was the intention. Jul 3rd
4 Jul 23 Comment Gary, it is an obvious staged image. The image is sharp, the contrast of her outfit with the background is balanced. Your PP brought detail in her eyes and face. I think your vantage point was too low, therefore her leg/and knee look much larger creating a little of obstruction and overpowering the rest of her body. Jul 3rd

15 Jul 23 Comment Randall, beautiful young eagle with full details and color in the feathers. The extended neck with complete separation of the body enhances the image. Nice contrast with the blue sky. The position in the frame with an oblique orientation also adds interest to the picture Jul 24th
15 Jul 23 Reply Randall, I really do not see the motion blur you mention Jul 24th
15 Jul 23 Reply One possible solution is to shoot wide open Jul 24th
15 Jul 23 Reply Linda, very artistic result Jul 9th
15 Jul 23 Reply Sarita, here in Florida we have them all year round Jul 9th
15 Jul 23 Comment Sarita, the duck in the front is saying, follow me, but the guy on the side is saying, not me. Nice group of woodducks. I have only seen the adults which are a work of art in nature. Kathy mentioned that she sees the area behind the ducks as distracting. If this would be a Reality Birds group, that can not be removed, otherwise it is very easy to do it with content awareness. There is also a small one on the left edge (my left) Jul 8th
15 Jul 23 Reply Jim, much better for sure. Yes, it looks natural Jul 6th
15 Jul 23 Reply It looks very obvious the darkening around the back of the chick on the right(my right), and again, it does not look natural. At the end of the day, it is on the eyes of the beholder !! Jul 5th
15 Jul 23 Comment Mike, it is always good to photograph birds doing something, not just sitting there... and if possible; to photograph them from the front (not always possible since they do not pose for us...). Here your GBH is spreading the wings and getting ready to take off (you can anticipate this is going to happen if they poop) and has one leg partially up. The image is sharp and the colors look natural. Jul 5th
15 Jul 23 Reply Jim, it does not look natural at all: colors and details Jul 5th
15 Jul 23 Comment Kathy, the image is very sharp, it's has a nice reflection, but overall; it is dark. In ACR with selective masking I added light to the duck, and to the water separately having control in the amount applied. Now we can see better colors and more details Jul 3rd
15 Jul 23 Comment Jim, it can not get any better than this. You have here nature at its best. An adult and the three chicks, with two of them negotiating what looks like a strip of meat. All it takes to make this image stand out is a combination of selected masking brushes adding light to the birds, and darkening the surroundings to make them less distracting. You are very lucky to have access to this event, and as you put very clearly, the birds do not collaborate in posing... Jul 3rd
15 Jul 23 Comment Linda, good capture of the time White Egret in Flight, and we did not plan to show the same bird. I like your concept of high key, but all the iterations have darkened the background to bring detail to the feathers, and the yellow looks somehow oversaturated. I kept the high key white background, lowered the yellow saturation and added detail to the feathers. Kathy's adjustments created a halo around the bird. I adjusted the size of the canvas to a 16 x 9 crop Jul 2nd

21 Jul 23 Comment Tom, you captured the skimmer at peak action. Even though the birds d is so black, the visibility of the eye is priority, even as you mention, with a catchlight. Being so close to the action, and being a BIF, I am surprised that it is very sharp with 1/1000 sec. As a mater of fact, this morning I went to St Pete's Beach that has a whole colony of skimmers on the beach. Jul 4th

58 Jul 23 Comment Gloria, interesting image of a triad of Lacrosse players. Only one is facing the camera, and the other two are looking away from it, being one of the players almost completely amputated. About the background, there is nothing you can do about it. Great action shot with the ball frozen in air Jul 24th
58 Jul 23 Reply Gloria, the frame in the right upper corner is complete. The crop was just next to the edge Jul 24th
58 Jul 23 Comment Bruce, indeed is a bag of tea at the Coffee House. The man is very concentrated doing his brew. The B&W interpretation adds interest to the image. I cropped the image to eliminate empty space and distractions. Jul 9th
58 Jul 23 Comment Sally, interesting image with a lot of surprise element given by the body language of the photographer, and an added element, the horse's tongue out which complements the element of surprise. You were able to bring back color to the areas that were overexposed: face. I also did some cropping as well Jul 9th
58 Jul 23 Comment Ed, the bubble maker did capture the attention of the girl (I guess?) in the front but not as much from the boy in the back. I have seen this bubble makers in Europe and they to attract the attention of kids as well as from grown ups. Your image is sharp, and the colors are well handled. I have images like this with the kid running and bursting the bubble. See my submission from July 2021 http://psadigital.org/group58/image.php?iid=61834 Jul 5th
58 Jul 23 Reply Ed, I must agree with this iteration Jul 5th
58 Jul 23 Reply It works for me as well. Thanks Jul 5th
58 Jul 23 Comment Kathleen, welcome to group 58. You are showing us an image which tells a story but at the same time gives us food for thought and to wonder what is going on. The combination of the pink handbag and the mesh stockings may help to the story.
The image is sharp. The car with the driver add interest to the story, but I think that when you tried to give some light to the driver's face, you did an overall adjustment which overexposed the image, unless your intention was to give to the image a vintage look. I did do a localized adjustment to add light to the face.

59 Jul 23 Comment Kerry, I tend to prefer the color version but with the tighter crop. It makes the vapor of the horses bodies more obvious, and it shows better the two empty horses. The image is sharp Jul 29th
59 Jul 23 Comment Don, good action image. Indeed the fault for the yellow card is very obvious. I am not sure if Gerald crop is appropriate sending two players to the guillotine. Jul 29th
59 Jul 23 Reply Forgot to mention the beautiful light !! Jul 6th
59 Jul 23 Reply Hans, I think these are girls Jul 6th
59 Jul 23 Comment Hans, great sequence with the main image showing the climax of the successful play. All the images are sharp, and the emotion is augmented by the reaction of the spectators. Once again, the decisive moment. Jul 3rd
59 Jul 23 Comment Gerald, this surfing image is up a notch with the presence of the kid on the surfing board with the father. Interesting s how your vantage point is in that beach, but works very well eliminating distractions in the background. The image is sharp Jul 3rd
59 Jul 23 Comment Ronald, my knowledge of cricket is limited, but this is a great action image at peak of intensity. First time I see the players catching gloves. The batsperson is in a very awkward body position. Image is sharp. Jul 3rd
59 Jul 23 Comment Bruce, what can I say: two up (in the air), and two down, and the ball is in the air as well. Image is sharp. Great action image Jul 3rd

72 Jul 23 Comment Barbara, I would say the this look is more mean than coy. I am surprised that you changed the color of the flamingo. The right color is in the original image. Your color interpretation is more like a shade of pink and the colors are slightly pale. I think you should try to bring back the original color and reduce the brightness. I agree with you that it is very difficult to isolate just one flamingo when they are in captivity. Jul 7th
72 Jul 23 Comment Maria, beautiful image of the Mantis, tack sharp, and nicely framed by the green leaf. Now, I am surprised that it is so sharp, with an f/ of 5.6. In Macro photography the DOF is very shallow, and the Mantis is very sharp all the way. Well done Jul 7th
72 Jul 23 Reply Jamie, the softness is probably due to the magnification created by the crop Jul 6th
72 Jul 23 Comment Adrian, you were lucky to find this polar bear on the pack-ice going for a seal hunt, which is their primary source of food. When I went to the arctic, there was still very little pack ice and the bears were undernourished and in dry land with no ice. We just saw one mother with one cub. Your image is sharp, and obviously your presence alerted the bear. Jul 3rd
72 Jul 23 Comment Marie, mama duck is followed by her team of ducklings in an orderly manner, in other words, following the leader. The image is sharp, and your PP and crop improved the image. Jul 3rd
72 Jul 23 Comment Mary, here again you delight us with another underwater image. Shows sharpness, good illumination, and colors. The image is sharp. This is an unknown territory and techniques for me. Jul 3rd
72 Jul 23 Comment Bruce this is a superb bold eagle portrait. I heard that Homer was a pristine place for bold eagles photography thanks to the work done by the late Jean Keene. It is very sharp and the colors are great Jul 3rd

91 Jul 23 Reply Bruce to avoid this line you have to feather the edge of the increase canvas Jul 10th
91 Jul 23 Reply We are going for the Birds of Colombia with him next year in September Jul 5th
91 Jul 23 Reply Hector Astorga was the guide as well for us. We did not see the bobcat, but we did see a herd of Javelinas. Jul 5th
91 Jul 23 Reply Cindy, interesting observation about the nictitating membrane or third eyelid of the birds to keep the cornea lubricated all the time, that is why I always shoot in burst regardless. The next frame probably does not show it. I agree that the original looks good as far as the colors. Jul 5th
91 Jul 23 Comment Bruce, magnificent image of the Pyrrhuloxia. Very sharp and soft, non distracting background. You did not include the metadata. I was at the Santa Clara Ranch this past May, what a wonderful place for bird photography indeed.
If you do a vertical (portrait crop) will place the bird in the middle of the frame. I like this crop
Jul 5th
91 Jul 23 Reply Sanat, the secret lies on the shutter speed, at least 1/2000 sec or more for BIF (Birds in Flight) Jul 5th
91 Jul 23 Reply Adrian , this is the right way to go !! I am also a "Reality" photographer Jul 5th

92 Jul 23 Comment Marianne, interesting PP leaving limited areas in color and the rest in B&W. Yes, NY is the city that never "sleeps" and this image illustrates that never stops indeed. The image is sharp. Where you in a vehicle in the front of the traffic or standing on the street ? Jul 4th
