4 May 23 Comment Guy, I second all the group members in wishing you prompt recovery. As we can see, our appreciation and interpretation of the images varies, and everybody is right in their own way. I kind agree with your suggested crop, keeping all the sky available in the frame. The image is sharp.
In the year 1086, America was still evolving and separating from Africa.....

4 May 23 Reply Gary, I do not want to make this an involved discussion. In the Reality Divisions of course minimal adjustments are allowed, but the Division trust your honesty. Of course, vignettes are not allowed. May 5th
4 May 23 Reply Bill, thanks for the tip May 5th
4 May 23 Comment Ian, definitively in the UK there is a cult for this type of events. Now, in this particular example I have some confusion about he messages this girl is giving out: Ask me about my man-baby agenda .... and the biohazard sign just above it ??
Indeed you selected the right spot, and used all your portrait photography knowledge to create this great image. The image is sharp with no distractions. I also do not understand the purpose of all the piercing in her nose and around her mouth. Oh well; modern times.

4 May 23 Comment Erik, there is no question in my mind that this would make the cover of any wildlife or birds photography. It can not get any better than this. Tack sharp, complete separation of all bold eagles, beautiful colors, action May 5th
4 May 23 Reply I Believe this will be the future of "still" photography. You just turn the camera on, record a lot of information, then you just select the possible frame that shows the "Decisive Moment" May 5th
4 May 23 Reply Gary and Vella, in any of the "Reality Divisions": Nature, Photo Travel and Photo Journalism, this type of adjustments are not allowed. You have to show the image as close to how you saw it as possible. It will work for color exhibitions. May 5th
4 May 23 Comment This is an image taken from the other side of the River, including this bridge as well as the full body of the Guggenheim Museum. It is a fascinating City. May 5th
4 May 23 Comment Bill, here I see a great juxtaposition of the foreground with your shadow, and the eye opening view (shaped) of the background, both in perfect sharpness, and with the presence of the human component just at its edge which gives you scale as how vast the area is (as well as your very little shadow). I like the composition. Here your sky replacement is not as competitive with the main subject as last month. I think I would reduce the luminosity of the rocks a little bit. May 1st
4 May 23 Comment Gary, this is a good nature image full of real life action. It probably could get accepted but I do not think it will be rewarded because we can not see clearly mothers eye. The background and crop is appropriate. It is sharp, and the colors look natural. I would crop just a little more to remove the two grey spots at the edge (You can not clone them out) In situations like this I do a never ending burst of images (film is free, and you will end up with hundreds of frames to review) to capture all the changes in position of the birds as the feeding happens, you may get the perfect shot May 1st

5 May 23 Comment Jim, you have achieved a pretty sharp image considering the tools used. All the adjustments suggested improve the image on the eyes of the beholders, but can not take away the incredible amount of intruding branches because of the nest location, and with each attempt, the quality of the image is degraded. I went once there looking for the bald eagles, but it was not the right time of the year. May 5th
5 May 23 Comment Hi Sophia, very interesting effect on the image. I am curious how did you do it. Of course all the additional adjustments and cropping done are in the eyes of the beholders. May 5th

58 May 23 Comment Gloria, a very colorful and sharp image of a quotidian event. People in their neighborhood making small talk. The guy on the chair may be the owner or in charge of the parking garage, and obviously they are acquainted. Somehow, the colors look a little oversaturated on my monitor. Agree with Eds crop, but his rendered image somehow obtained a grunge effect. May 25th
58 May 23 Comment Bruce, I have to become interested in all that has to do with the University of Maryland. My granddaughter will start Biomedical Engineering in the fall. You had mention that you moved to Maryland, where about ?
Obviously this event is popular given by the amount of people around the pool. I like your choice of image showing us just three participants (odd number), and I like what Ed did to remove the distracting red backpack. The image is sharp.

58 May 23 Comment Sally, It is always interesting to be around one of this Reinactment events, whereby we can learn about history, customs and way of living in those times. You captured the trio walking towards you and looking at the camera. The feet off the ground denote movement, otherwise it is a very static image. I straightened the horizonthal lines, cropped it a little bit to get rid o the side walkway which is distracting, and added some light to the front line faces. May 9th
58 May 23 Comment Ed, first I have to admit that you have a pretty steady grip, since the image, overall; is pretty much in focus at 1/13 sec hand held, except for the man with the long sleeve blue sweater. Indeed it is an interesting conversation piece given by its origin and characteristics. The three men form a triangle framing the bike. I believe that the crop is a little tight, creating tension around the image. May 8th

59 May 23 Reply Gerald, I am always worried about amputating body parts at the images edge. Obviously, this is not a concern for you. How about general judges ? May 29th
59 May 23 Comment Gerry, this guy is obviously a master of his game. It takes stamina and good physical condition to perform this type of stunts. You have him at peak of action, and the image is sharp. May 25th
59 May 23 Comment Kerry, peak of action by the horse and rider. I have never seen this on the South Florida Rodeos. The image is sharp. May 25th
59 May 23 Reply Thanks Gerry May 25th
59 May 23 Comment Don, welcome to group 59 as another Nikon fellow user (I have your same gear). Your image is full of action and sharp. I am not sure that I like Bruce's crop, it amputated the players feet, and the ball is touching the frame. Indeed, the success of sports photography is to register the decisive moment, as is here. With the option of 20 frames/sec in raw, or 120 frames in .jpg, the possibilities are endless. May 8th
59 May 23 Reply Ronald, look at the water splash at the tip of the paddles and the trail after the small boat, show motion May 5th
59 May 23 Comment Hans, Field hockey in the United States is a sport which has only limited popular support. In the US the sport used to be female dominated as opposed to Europe's male dominant leagues. However, in the United States of America, there are few field hockey clubs, most play taking place between high school or college sides, almost entirely of females. Your image is full of action, which is observed very closely by the goalkeeper. The image is sharp and shows the ball in the air. May 4th
59 May 23 Comment Ronald, to watch the dance of the ladies and the horses is a complete visual espectacle. This is common practice in many countries following the Spanish conquers influence. Even though it implies body movements, I think it is more an art, rather than a sport. Qualifies more for Photo Travel or PJ
Unfortunately, as you mentioned; it is a very low resolution image which is not sharp.

59 May 23 Comment Bruce, your private collection of Soccer images is bottomless. I like how the falling man in yellow is framed by the three opponents. The bokeh created by the 400 mm f/2.8 is priceless. The ball is in the air. What else could you have hoped for in this image ?? May 4th

72 May 23 Comment Barbara, yes; the bear seems very concentrated about his stick. I like the crop you are presenting. The image is sharp. The background is slightly blurred and non distracting. As you say, the bear is posing for you. May 9th
72 May 23 Comment Mary, the Town of Lewiston was formed in 1818 being the first European settlement in Western New York when a French explorer arrived in 1615. It is located in Niagara County, New York. You are presenting us a house backyard garden, which I find more interesting in the color version, since we can appreciate the variety of vegetation. I made the vertical lines straight. May 9th
72 May 23 Comment Marie, The Great Blue Heron are magnificent birds, specially during mating season. Here, most likely the male is going out to get nesting material, less likely food since we can not see chicks on the nest as yet. When you changed the sky to blue, it failed to cover around the nest because of its intricated structure and that is why you can see some white patches. There is some action denoted by the bird ready to take off. I normally take bursts of images, so you can catch the bird already in the air which gives more interest to the image. Your square crop is too tight and not giving room to the bird to fly into. I increased the canvas that way and aded some light to the shadows, and darkened just a little the blue of the sky. May 5th
72 May 23 Comment Only for the group to get an idea as how the tulip fields look from the air (small airplane). May 4th
72 May 23 Comment Bruce, very nice image of a field of Tulips. The only place I have seen so many tulips together was in Amsterdam-Holland during the season (April-May the same). The image is very sharp front to back (focus stacking ?) and the colors are very bright. Your POV is low enough to give additional DOF to the image. Nicely arranged by colors. I added some light to the shadows to bring out more color.

72 May 23 Comment Adrian, The Giant Petrels are a group of very peculiar Antarctic birds. The name "petrel" comes from the story of Saint Peter who walked on water because petrels look like they're running on water as they begin to take off into flight. Giant Petrels are the only members of the Procellariidae family (Petrels, Prions, and Shearwaters) that have legs strong enough to allow them to move around on land. Like some other seabird species, Giant Petrels secrete a saline solution from a nasal passage in order to rid their bodies of the excess salt they swallow while feeding.
You capture the bird in flight. The whites look overexposed. I tried to reduce the brightness but there was no information there so the area turned grey. It is sharp, and your crop gave enough space in the front of the bird to fly into.
May 4th
72 May 23 Comment Maria great capture, this one is sharp. These little guys are very fast. I used your original image and with the masking brush I added light, color and some additional texture and cropped it to allow the bird space to fly into, and not being in the center of the frame. May 2nd
