Bill, interesting dreamy rendition from this nice landscape image of the lighthouse. I think the foreground overpowers the lighthouse, caused by the wide angle lens. Once again, your creativity is amazing. |

Guy, very peaceful image created by the silky effect of the water after the 1.3 sec long exposure. It is not overexposed, and it is sharp all over. I like the composition of the multi small waterfalls integrated into the large one. The dark surrounding gives a little mystery to the image |

Ian, hope you are getting much better by now. This looks like the eyes of Wall-E a 2008 pixar movie robot. I like the way the concentric an symmetric circles are arranged. I think that the out of focus circles created by the bokeh complement the image, rather than distract from it. Since everything is out of sci-fic those represent the distorted images created by the robots eye. Well done. |

Gary, interesting comparison you are making, but you did not specify which image is iPhone and which is Canon. My guess is that the main image is the iPhone since you mentioned it first. It is very hard to tell which is better/nicer.
Anyway, this image is of a nice winter sunset |

Erik, This is a perfect example of the decisive moment in photography. Peak of action. I have witnessed this type of behavior of the gulls that are always after a free lunch. Here we have not one, but two gulls trying to steal the fish from the tern. Everything is in focus, not so the background therefore not distracting. Nice composition in a triangle. Plenty of space in the front to fly into. |

Bill, indeed the juggler is the central point in this image, and the tweak Ed did really made his face sharper. Good that it is peak of action with two of the three knifes in the air, and the 1/50th sec allowed for some additional blur. Your selection of f/stop also created some blur in the background, but still good detail but not distracting taking away from the juggler. Nobody is amputated at the edges which is good |

Bruce, well done. Your PP has given us detail in the dark as well as the bright areas of the image. I like the way this alley is taking us to where the young man and the cat are at the back of the leading sort of tunnel. I also reduced the brightness of the coble street 1/20th of exposure and added some texture |

Sally, it is always difficult to take pictures of a street scene when there is a central point of interest (here the white Corvette now converted to red) and we forget most of the time about the surroundings: people, other cars, buildings, sky and therefore end up with amputated parts. Also need to make the verticals straight. Your sky PP made the image too dark. This is my interpretation of your image done from the original |

Heidi, the shape of the pizza is far from looking like an uterus, It is the shape of a heart. You pretty much created the image at the decisive moment when she was showing off and smiling. Bruce's PP really improved the image obscuring the distracting background and emphasizing the future OB/GYN Doc |

Gloria, good impromptu image and as others have said, he caught you in the action and his customer is also aware but not looking, but his face expression gives it away. For the ones that do not read Hebrew, it says that the apply that product (smartbond) there. The slow shutter speed allowed some movement/blur. Interesting effect created by the glass window cutting the image in two, and the pink balloons complement the image |

Ed, this was at the entrance of the Agra Fort, a very important landmark and visited by the thousands a day. The area was so crowded with people that it was almost impossible to create a wider image without including several bystanders, therefore I had to go tight. |

Ed, the image is very grainy (oversharpened ?) and shows poor detail in the people and in the flying snowmobile with no snow in the field. Indeed is a peak of action image. It denotes good attendance and good attention from the viewers. Since it was created from far and with a long lens, everything is compressed to one plane. |

Gerald, another basketball image full of action. There is no way to avoid a distracting background when you are shooting at almost ground level, and this sports photos can not be staged. I like the separation of the three players, and the one in the back is collateral damage, and has the bonus of all feet in the air. It will be try and error |

Kerry, good action image with him in an angle and waking water to the right (my right) of the image. He seems very comfortable given by his body language and the left arm down so the speed had been lowered. Image (main subject) is sharp. Light conditions were not in your favor |

Hans, greetings for the new year as well. Panning is not easy. Too many things can go wrong: camera shutter speed too fast, panning too fast or too slow. Speed of the moving subject and so on. You were able to create a good one. The front biker is pretty sharp so your 1/60 sec shutter speed was appropriate. Everything in the background is blurred, and the back biker is soft. A combination of features that makes this a good image. |

Ronald, Happy New Year. A few years ago I had the International channels on my Dish Network satellite subscription and was exposed to cricket for the first time (I grew up in South America, so I only understood soccer and baseball). Learned a bit about American Football when we moved to USA, but was never a fan of it. Now, basically soccer so I second Bruce when he says that soccer may overrun the others.
Lots of action in this image. The ball is in the frame and was just hit or will be hit. The bowler is still in his throwing movement. The image is sharp. Interesting observation that the field official has two hats (perhaps one for the rain ?). I like the way the match day is called "boxing day". |

Bud, very nice capture of the Northern White Crowned Shrike. First time I see it. Same as in Washington State, is not available in Florida. The bird is very sharp, and the background perfectly managed, completely blurred and non distracting. Personally, since the background is clean, does not addd if you keep a big empty space. I prefer a tighter crop. I also added a touch of light to the eye.
Now, going to the issue of the Nikon Software. I went recently to Vietnam with my Z9. Many times working at high ISO (keeping auto ISO on) and importing the images directly to LightRoom from my hard drive. The noise was unbelievable compared to my previous experience with the Nikon D5 and D850 in same circumstances. Heard from some people that the problem was with Adobe and the Z9 that they did not have the correct antinoise algorithms. I even sent the camera back to Nikon (NPS and still warranty). Could you please elaborate a little more about how you used the Nikon software. |

Larry, here you are making a good point. What is the story the you want to tell. Show a Swallowtail in flight with the full span of the wings included in the frame or an action image which this is. Purist judges may grade this image low, however, real nature and wild life photographers understand the difficulties to create an image like this. You stated very clear that you were out for two mornings and several hours until this image was created. In spite of the large crop you still had enough pixels for a sharp image. |

Maria, the Anade is called Mallard in English. If this is, could be a female or a young male without the green/bluish set of feathers in the head. You are presenting an image with a duck swimming away from us and leaving a nice trail behind. It is a very peaceful image and the blue color denotes calm. The image is sharp. The duck is placed where there is enough space in the front to swim into. We can see one of the eyes. |

Marie, yes indeed this is a beautiful landscape/sunset combo, nicely exposed and very sharp. In my eyes, I do not like to see the tree trunk amputated so I cropped it completely, as I did some of the sky which is empty and not adding to the image, in a panorama like presentation. Last but not least, I added some light (using the radiant gradient filter in ACR) to the couple sitting off center to make them more obvious and to give dimension to the site. Also, congratulation for your article |
