Guy, dramatic sky, and dramatic foreground created by the pilons and interrupted bridge to nowhere..., and yes the black spots are intriguing as well (thanks for the explanation). Colors are a little dark but they go with the mood of the image created by the weather. I was thinking to crop some of the dark sky, but there is where the drama lies. The two persons on the left really gives us an idea as how vast the area is |

Yes Vella it is in Maryland, but I think it was too early for the Lavender season as you can see in this other image. Very little color |

Gary, very interesting and intricated set up of hardware showing the effect of age and abandonment on the metal. Lots of thigs to look at, but it gets a little busy and distracting to make us center on a particular point. Additionally, the effect of the HDR processing makes the image to look a little fake with funny colors. I think that the original by itself with some work, and some crop will give it a better chance. The B&W interpretation also works well |

Ian, what a beautiful flower and the raindrop is the cherry on the ice cream. It is very sharp, the colors are very vivid, and the composition with the branch coming from the side improves the image. I think there is a little too much empty space, so I took the liberty to bring the image into Photoshop, cropped it, and replaced the 2 pixels stroke. I believe that the flower stands out better now |

Erik, Burrowing Owls are a lot of fun to photograph, and if we get low to their eye level even better. This couple as you describe, are enjoying time together. Both are sharp in spite that they are not on the same DOF plane, obviously f/11 helped. No, I have a question/critic to make. You amputated the legs. My guess is because you do not want to show human intervention (perhaps a man made perch), but now you are compromising for an award or even perhaps acceptance in a nature salon. anyway the image is sharp, the colors are vivid and the background is perfect |

Vella, great capture of the carmorant with breading colors (the blue in the eyes) and with a very large catfish, that will need some maneuvering (birds have no hands...) to swallow it. The image (original) is very dark so I am guessing it was early in the morning or late afternoon. I agree with Gary that your ISO setting was kind of low. I normally use auto ISO which overrides that problem and always work in manual selecting f/stop and speed. Your PP did bring some detail to the bird and fish, but still is dark. I took the image to ACR and just used the auto adjust and it looks much better |

Bill, nice image showing the couple walking your way with a very strong leading line created by the walkway. Your original image was very dark, and was improved with the magic of the new masking tools in LightRoom and Adobe Camera Raw. You did not give us details about the metadata and camera used. I think that the couple needs a little more work, so here we go back to ACR and added a little more overall light to the image, and specially to the couple which consisted of selecting them and increase exposure. Since they were pretty dark to begin with, Mr noise is having a ball. I did do some additional reduction of noise but the more we do, the more definition of the image we loose. Great composition |

Gary, thank you for your recommendations. I did do a sky replacement, and cropped the amount of fence, since the original image is the full frame. |

Dan, I recognize the peace symbol from the hippies time, "make love not war". I guess it is still valid. The presence of just one pink flip flop denotes loss. With no intention of making a free advertisement, pink "xhilaration" is a trademark from Target.
The image is sharp |

Gloria, interesting image showing aged hands and a very broken in pipe. You can tell the man has been smoking a pipe for many years as you can see the nicotine as well as the burned tobacco stains on his index finger. Overall, the image tells a story. It is sharp. The out of focus matches box in the back, gives depth to the picture |

Sally, Cape Verde or Cabo Verde as the Portuguese named the Island is located in the Central Atlantic Ocean and it is formed by 10 volcanic island, forming part of the Macronesia together with Azores, Madeira (both Portuguese) and Canary Islands.
It interesting that there is a community of Cape Verdians in New Bedford. The parade looks well organized and the outfits are very colorful. Good POV. Good PP but I think that still can benefit of additional light in the shadows |

Bruce, great street scene. I have become pretty good shooting from the hip when I travel. Indeed this gentleman is a very sophisticated barber wearing a tie and a lab jacket (I am a physician and I have not wore a Lab jacket for a very long time. Besides sophisticated, there is a great deal of order, when you see the window covers nicely placed on the side and held with a string. I also like the reflections on the window, but it would be impossible to know what is going on, unless explained as you did. The image is sharp, and the colors are very vivid |

Bill, interesting image of a dark alley/backstreet and the central point of interest is at its end, the graffiti on the door. The fire scape is an important element in the context of the image and I do not think it should be removed. Also the bright spot in the upper section takes your eyes directly to it. The sidewalls of the narrow street works as leading lines. I cropped some of the right sided wall to place the door at the end of the alley off center. Using the Masking tool in ACR I reduced the brightness on the upper side, and added some light to the door using a radial gradient brush |

Gerald, great action image which is side lighted creating shadows that creates depth. The image is sharp, and the dark background is in favor except for the white fences. The muscles in the legs are very obvious and prominent denoting good physical condition and training. Good separation of the cyclists.
Congratulations for your many awarded images. |

Kerry, first time I see and read about Polocrosse. I have seen Polo on horses (conventional) and polo on camels in the Goby desert of Mongolia. I will share an image next month. I see all the variations to the theme by the preceding comments, and there is very little I can say at this point. It shows action and it is sharp |

Bruce, you nailed it again. Lucky you that in that venue they allow photographers in the front and with the possibility of getting down. Here in Florida, at the Homestead Rodeo you are being pulled back al the time by the "Rodeo Police", but we do our best. The image is sharp. It is obvious that it takes some strength and dexterity to grab the caw by the horns and make it fall and tie the legs. The dust in the background really denotes action to the image |

Ronald, the ball got loose and all the eyes are on it. Obviously it is happening in an informal set up, since there is people climbing in the background, and there is nothing we can do about it in PJ. I have never watched a rugby match and it looks like it is interesting. I personally do not care much about the American football. I grew up with soccer. I had to read as why only a couple of players are wearing a head piece that is not a helmet. If is is to avoid damage to the ears from rubbing, why not all the players wear it ? |

Hans, great panning result with the runners being sharp and the background blurred by motion. I read Ronald's recommendation as that you should have waited a fraction of a second before pressing the shutter release. I wish I could do that. I think it is a little bright so I decreased it, and reduced just a touch the vibrance. Great capture |

Adrian, indeed to be able to create this type of images tales good physical condition to be able to hike as you describe, and sometimes when you get to the top, the weather changes and is not in your favor, or the only safe vantage point is not good to be able to include the whole landscape, but you keep the images in your memory (brain, and camera cards) Interesting the difference in the shades of blue of the water. i think that the iPhone processes the image immediately and gives you a final image. The images are sharp. |

Mary, underwater photography is a complete different ball game and takes physical condition, skills, not to mention expensive accessories for your camera and to be able to inhale and exhale. I know that the deeper you are, you loose colors specially the red, and everything turns into shades of blue. Obviously, you were able to illuminate somehow the lion fish which is an invasive species here in south Florida, but got improved in your PP. I like Bruce's crop. The image is sharp and nicely composed |

Marie, again; welcome to our group. I am delighted that you like to photograph birds, so do I. Your Background is really interesting since it denotes movement being blurred in a very uniform way, and non distracting, and the bird is sharp and with an active gesture. You already did a big crop, but I think there is still too much empty space that is not contributing to the image, since the bird gets lost in the immensity. I cropped some more and darkened the background |

Bruce, this is a great action shot of a BIF. For me it is an acceptance in any Nature salon. If the owl would be looking towards us, it is a rewarded image. It is sharp, and the background blends perfectly with the main subject without distracting |

Marie, great action image and interesting squirrel behavior. I like the way they are interlaced minding their own business. The image is sharp in spite of the magnum crop, and the colors are very vivid but a little dark. I did add some light to the shadows and cropped a little from both ends superior and inferior, and I learned a new word in the English language: frolicking |
