Than, great shot indeed with peak of action just when the Kingfisher was coming out of the water, and the jumping fishes are the "cherry on top". It is unfortunate that you caught him with the eyes closed |

Ian, nothing bits being prepared and use the burst technology in our cameras. This warblers are very fast and difficult to photograph. All the perching birds share some characteristics, such as being fairly small, vocal, and insectivorous. Of course they take advantage or pre drilled holes to nest. What more convenient than the cannon of this flying machine. I am attaching a sequence of a blue bird I was photographing and with no previous notice it flew into the hole probably done previously by a woodpecker. All 6 images took less than 1 second (I had my new Nikon Z9 at 15 frames/second) |

Guy, great capture. It looks like a "menage a troi". Beautiful scenery telling a story. I like the blurred background with the multiple birds nesting. The contrast of the rocky area with the greenery and the light color of the birds blends very well. I do agree with Erik. This is my interpretation |

Vella, great BIF capture. It is sharp, both wing are open and there is separation of the neck with respect to the wings. The background is blurred which adds quality to the image. I do find the plumage quite dark and with lack of detail. Using the new masking feature in LightRoom and ACR you can select the subject, clear with a new brush the areas you do not want to modify and the increase exposure. Resulted in a magenta discoloration which I desaturated with another slider. Unfortunately, the top of the head and part of the tail are already overexposed and there are no pixels to modify. Overall, good image |

Bill, you keep impressing me with the images you create with the iPhone and with all the PP you know how to do "in phone" and without the need of heavy equipment and a computer with software to process. I like the effect on the sky, however it leaves a lot of contamination over the foliage. With respect on the effect over the architecture, the bricks at the begining of the stairs to enter the front of the house looks real, but the effect on the facade of the house looks fuzzy like a painterly filter. The colors are nice and it is sharp overall. Nice historic archive image. |

Gary, when I first saw the color image I was impacted by the strong magenta tint in the middle of the frame. Looking at the B&W interpretation, gives a complete different impression, specially the tack sharpness from the front to the back of the image. The verticals are perfect, the contrast is great and your POV (point of view) or aka vantage point is right to avoid distortion by the keystoning effect when the camera is not perpendicular to the subject, like photographing a building tilting the camera up. Good architecture image |

Erik, a great combination of abstract and real images. Lovely leading line created by the blue center circles on the left (my left) of the frame and coming forward and to front, and extending to almost adopting a human shape. On the other side of the frame the fine yellow lines also work as a leading line. The two small icebergs in the center with their reflections is the cherry on top of the ice cream |

Sophia, besides all of what has been said, I probably would crop a little of the water in the foreground/bottom. Being on the skiff, gave you a good low vantage point |

David, great action shot with peak of action. It must take a lot of strength and flexibility to the side car passenger not to fall. Remember that no modification can be done to the image if you want to participate in a Photojournalist section of an international competition. Only by cropping. Dan, from your description using 35mm focal length, you were pretty close to the children, so I am guessing that they are familiar with you. Obviously, they were interested in something going on "Over There". The main focus is on the girl and then fades away to the boy (f/5.6 shallow DOF). The colors are well managed, and it is sharp where it should be |

Sally, indeed you like old cars. Interesting model and in the color version the yellow is very bright overpowering the rest of the image. In your B&W interpretation the car kept the brightness. I did a couple of adjustments including reduction of the brightness by 1/2 stop with the masking tool in Lightroom I selected the subject. Also cropped to remove the amputated car and the light pole and to place the car off center. The two guys in the background just give dimension to the image |

Bruce, great action image with peak of activity. I personally think that Yoga is a whole body exercise, therefore I prefer to show the whole body doing the pose and tells the real story. I took your original image, did some adjustments in LightRoom and cropped as shown. The image is sharp and the colors are bright. Did you get any images from the front of the participants ? The statue is checking that the movements are done correctly. BTW he is William Cullen Bryant, an American romantic poet, journalist, and long-time editor of the New York Evening Post. Born in Massachusetts, he started his career as a lawyer but showed an interest in poetry early in his life. He soon relocated to New York and took up work as an editor at various newspapers |

Les, it is impressive the dedication of the workers at the Monterey Aquarium which I visited recently. The feed each penguin individually so all of them get enough nutrients. The glass in front of the site goes all the way to the ground so you can see them swimming. I believe these are the Magellan penguins which are the smallest of the species. The rocks preparation looks very real. |

Gloria, when you have to go, you have to go... and I like the sign at the door "Just in Time". The image is sharp. The colors are vivid. I think the blurred vegetation in the front overpowers the main subject. I would crop some of it. Interesting as how the perspective makes the man taller than the facility, probably produced by the focal length (not stated) |

Kerry, the peak of action makes this image but unfortunately, we can not see the riders face, and as far as those judges that do not want to see spectators in the background, probably paid for a private show. The image is sharp and the parallelism between horse and rider is an added bonus |

Ronald, here again I have learned about another sport: Field Hockey. You were able to get a very good image in spite of your high ISO to 12800 which you adjusted very well. Gerald crop and adjustments improves the image |

Hans, partial image editing is allowed as long as it looks natural and not overdone. It is the same case as in the Photo Travel Division and pure Nature.
With this image I learned about the Dragon Boat Races, which are originally from China. You have peak of action probably since the rowers are sprinting last few yards. I understand that the person in the front facing the rowers keeps the rhythm with a drum |

Larry, we can find another gator with the same twisted jaw at one of the Wetlands in Palm Beach County/Delray Beach in Florida. I am not quite sure if it is Green Cay or Wakodahatchee. Interesting your POV at eye level, and I believe the front of the jaw is not in the frame because you had too much reach available at you distance. The light conditions add mystery to the image. It is sharp |

Yes, The Reddish Egret as I said, is the most spectacular bird to photograph. Their typical behavior as they fish is just unique. Here I am attaching a link so you can get an idea of what is available for photography at Merritt Island, near Titusville-Florida

Barbara, It is difficult to photograph the newborns because they are always blocked by the sticks of the nest. Here, you were lucky that there is a window and we can see the chick's eye, and the mother doing some house keeping. Peak of action is when the chicks are fed. It is also nice the way the white egret is framed by the greenery. You still have a sharp image and with little noise (no ISO information) in spite of the sever crop |

Bruce, I am not justifying myself, but I could not go any further back (800 mm) and this is a full frame image just cropped in the front of the Panda to eliminate empty space. For me it was more prevalent the hand holding the bamboo than the tip of the earlobe |

Adrian, I have been there and the immensity of the glacier just overwhelms your senses. To me, either version works since the color is very subtle, and perhaps the fog is more obvious in the color version. The image is sharp and the group of people in the foreground initiates a leading pattern to the real glacier in the back framed by the mountains. |

Marie, beautiful and peaceful landscape. The image is sharp and the colors are very vivid. If you are trying to emphasize the boulders and the wall, I tend to agree with Bruce. In your main image, the greenery overpowers the water and rocks, and the white clouds tend to pull your eyes there first. |

Bruce, the Redish Egret for me is the best "performer" of all the wading birds for the way they dance and jump all over the place when they are fishing. Here the bird is in transit but not doing anything of interest except being with both wings open. The image is sharp, and the 400 f/2.8 gives a great bokeh |
