4 Jun 22 Reply Good job Dr. Buchanan Jun 29th
4 Jun 22 Reply Gary, correction the metadata stated is for the spoonbills mating. The information on this image is Nikon Z9 with the 100-400 mm f/4.5-5.6 and the added 1.4x zTC at 420 mm, ISO 100, f/8 and 1/800 sec. Here the image out of camera with no PP. I did send this image to the Alligator Farm photo contest. On a local Camera Club monthly competition, "the judge" gave a low score stating that the birds were not "visible complete" in the frame.... Jun 19th
4 Jun 22 Reply Gary, I am away from home until Friday. I will send the original so you can see the amount of cropping. Yes, sometimes the birds feeding can be quite dramatic as you can see here a Carmorant feeding the chick, the head completely inside the throat Jun 15th
4 Jun 22 Reply Yes Vella, I have seen both parents feeding the chicks Jun 6th
4 Jun 22 Comment Ian, there is no question that you were pretty high and far to be able to obtain this panoramic view with only 40 mm focal length adjustment. Very impressive bay with a very broad beachfront. It must have been a cold day, since only one person is in the water within the frame. Interesting architecture, with a contrasting fort/castle on the top of the green hill, complemented by the lighthouse. Obviously you always are prepared and had your filter available. As Vella said, looking forward to see more images of the area. Jun 6th
4 Jun 22 Comment Erik, there is no doubt that photographing alligators in the wild is more difficult than doing it in one of the controlled environment like alligator Farm in St Augustin, or Gatorland in Orlando. Alligators are native to only United States (Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Carolines, Texas), Mexico and China. The image is sharp. I like the reflected colors on the water, and I guess this one must be a female since "she" already decorated herself with a nice head touch Jun 6th
4 Jun 22 Comment Vella, you have photographed the tower from a different vantage angle, and I like the way the trees frame it. It is sharp. I agree with Guy that the contrail is slightly distracting but the result of modern times, also needs a little more contrast. I used one of the Silver Effex 2 preset and darkened the edges and now the tower stands out against the sky Jun 6th
4 Jun 22 Comment Guy, I have not had the luck to photograph Gannets as yet. These are beautiful seabirds closely related to the boobies and also fish by plunging into the sea from high altitudes, and which I have photographed. They have a very particular breeding behavior in colonies, and I understand that the most important nesting grounds for the northern gannets is in the UK. The birds are very sharp and contrasting very nicely with the greenery. The background is blurred and non distracting. I jus wonder what are those four clear items under the water Jun 6th
4 Jun 22 Comment Bill, Aspens are always a great photo opportunity. You and Erik found this nice forest. It is interesting as how these new generation of plugins changes reality to our liking. The image is sharp and you achieved good DOF (metadata not available). The Orton effect gives to the image this dreamy look Jun 6th
4 Jun 22 Comment Gary, great composition and I am surprised that with this long lens 100-500 @ 114 mm you were able to get the moon and the pilons in focus. Did you do some focus stacking ?
I like the leading line created by the pilons directly to the moon

58 Jun 22 Reply Bruce, it looks great as a silhouette Jun 29th
58 Jun 22 Reply Bruce, not reason at all. I guess it looked good to my eyes. Just did a levels adjustment making the blacks darker. The surface of the wall now looks grungier Jun 16th
58 Jun 22 Reply Yes Dan, the two men represent religious groups that dress differently Jun 16th
58 Jun 22 Comment Bruce, interesting image for sure but I think it is too busy with a lot of things going on, and almost each event could be an image on its own. The central point and the motive of the image is the man with the camel. The other men and camels partially amputated are distracting, as are the couple sitting under the umbrella and from their back. I used you original unedited image and cropped it, but since it is of low resolution the resulted product is not sharp. This is how I see the image. By any chance did you take any other from a different vantage point ? Jun 16th
58 Jun 22 Reply Dan, from the current vantage point this is what I have in mind. Including the bike needed a different approach Jun 16th
58 Jun 22 Comment Dan, cute image and I understand the desire to include all the characters in the frame, but then in dilutes the "main" which is the kid sitting on the dog and touching the scarecrow, and away from his bike. The kids gesture gives a lot of interest to the image. The colors are very vivid and the image is sharp Jun 15th
58 Jun 22 Comment Sally, woody's are really classic vintage cars. In their day, wooden bodied station wagons were work horses. Considered unattractive and strictly utilitarian, they were produced in low numbers. Then after a half century of production, they were gone, discontinued, largely because they were so difficult to manufacture and maintain. Yet today, they can sell for more than a house and are considered classic beauties. Ford introduced the first production Woodie in 1929. Throughout the 30's most other manufacturers joined in, usually with very limited success, Some lesser known car makers only produced a prototype or two. The largest car company at the time, Chevrolet, waited until 1939 before they introduced their first woodie. Your image is sharp and is in the context of an outdoor car exhibition. Nice colors Jun 12th
58 Jun 22 Comment Gloria, it is said that dogs are man's best friend, and you can attest this on this image. The dog is sitting nicely on his owner's lap, which is having some respiratory issues being on oxygen all the time even at rest (the doctor in me...) given by the plastic tubing in his nostrils. Location was given by his hat: Canada
The image is sharp. The colors are good in spite of the harsh light for the time of the day, the shadows on the ground.
Last but not least, peak of action given by the dog's tongue
Jun 6th
58 Jun 22 Comment Les, great capture. Image is sharp. The whole frame is in context being everything related to pizza. You missed the artisan's whole face by a fraction of a second should you have been in burst mode, but just the one eye gives some drama to the image. It tells the story Jun 6th

59 Jun 22 Reply Gerald, something like this ?? Jun 22nd
59 Jun 22 Reply There is no question about it: I am learning about the sport Jun 11th
59 Jun 22 Comment Kerry, it is really impressive as how these players have no protection gear at all compared to the Americans. I think the light was in your favor like a gigantic soft light box. To my eye the players in the front are pretty sharp, not so the ones in the background which is desirable. My only concern is the amputated player, but fortunately it was possible to eliminate him with just cropping. Yes, I agree that now the bearded man is almost touching the frame creating some tension. Now we have three players in the front

59 Jun 22 Comment Gerald, I agree with Hans. Perhaps another negative point could be that the face of the surfer is not completely shown since it is blocked by the frozen water in the air. The image is sharp, and the colors are very vivid Jun 9th
59 Jun 22 Comment Hans, yes the image is related to sports photography, even though is not showing any of the game action, but the interaction of the Coach with the team member. I like very much the main image with the Coach in focus and the players blurred but filling the frame. Again, another example of your privilege to be directly where the action is. The other three images really complete the story Jun 9th
59 Jun 22 Reply Thank you Hans Jun 9th
59 Jun 22 Reply Thank you Ronald, interesting effect indeed. Jun 6th
59 Jun 22 Comment Ronald, obviously the light conditions were not in your favor, but still you were able to record the event for the future. The very high ISO + noise reduction process really takes a toll on the quality and sharpness of the image creating the magenta hue and the grainy and grudge looking details. Still, lots of action going on, with three out of the four legs in the air. The player with the orange top is about to take a fall, and yes, never leave home without your camera even at night !! Jun 6th
59 Jun 22 Comment Bruce, another of your soccer masterpiece images. Peak of action, very sharp, great non distracting background. Obviously you have privileged vantage points to create your images. I like the intensity of the player's body language by the contracting muscle groups. Great colors. Perhaps the player's shoe on one side and the hand in the other are too close to the edge creating some tension Jun 6th

67 Jun 22 Comment Jason, parenthood at its best. Your low vantage point at bird level, and the use of 800 mm wide open gave you a perfect non distracting background. Obviously this adult has been tagged more than once. Patience pays off. Image very sharp, but a bit dark Jun 10th
67 Jun 22 Comment Frank, what a beautiful bird that I have never seen. The eyes are just breath taking. You got peak of action, and unless they were just ready to mate, there is a parking spot dispute. Image is sharp and crop appropriate Jun 10th
67 Jun 22 Comment Michael and Larry, I understand both points of view comments. Perhaps just turning the image 90 changes the whole perspective and plays a game to our senses. BTW it is a great image and even better should you have done a couple more frames moving the focus point. I understand that it is not so easy handholding Jun 4th

69 Jun 22 Comment Mervyn, the purple gallinule is trying to break a record of tightrope walking using the wings for balance. It is sharp, and the blurred background is not distracting. A good acrobatic act Jun 6th

72 Jun 22 Reply Barbara, a flash extender or a.k.a. better beamer could help on some occasion specially in very dark canopies as fill in light, but the fact that the flash recharging time is long, you will end up with some images dark in the burst, if that is the case Jun 29th
72 Jun 22 Reply Barbara, in this group it is OK but not in a pure Nature group/competition. as said by the others, man intervention should not be evident Jun 29th
72 Jun 22 Reply I just updated my LightRoom and one of the improvements says that made it easier to invert a selection with the masking tool Jun 14th
72 Jun 22 Reply Yes Randy, that is an issue with the select subject tool. You have to select it on two separate times and do your adjustments. Finish one, and then go and make a new selection of the same subject and invert for the background Jun 12th
72 Jun 22 Reply This image was from our workshop, Using a 70-200mm lens. Obviously you are a real and pure explorer sleeping on the ground... Jun 11th
72 Jun 22 Reply Bruce, you did the right choice of going to the Aligator Farm in St Augustin. A lot more going on Jun 11th
72 Jun 22 Comment Mary, the Yellow Eyelash Viper is one of the most poisonous snakes in Costa Rica. We did have the chance to photograph them in an arranged environment with a trained handler. Your image looks like it was created in its pure natural habitat, and from far given by the super crop, and even so, you still have a fairly good image. The colors are very vivid Jun 11th
72 Jun 22 Comment Randy, great capture, peak of action. I can feel your adrenaline flowing with this magnificent combination of the Z9 + 800 mm (I do have the Z9, but still waiting for the 800mm lens). We do get the painted Bunting's here in Florida during the spring time, they tend to hang around the feeders placed in the Broward County wetlands. Using the new masking tools in LightRoom I darkened the background Jun 11th
72 Jun 22 Comment Barbara, this Snowy Egret is standing with an attitude, with the wings slightly separated from the body, like ready to take off. The image is very sharp. The bird is completely surrounded by items showing the intervention of men, therefore does not qualify for a pure Nature competition. Jun 11th
72 Jun 22 Comment Bruce, I missed you by a week at the Aligator Farm. This year was very productive as you are showing us. Lots of nesting birds and in matting colors as is this male cattle egret. Interesting pose facing you directly, and the beak and eyes are in full focus. Nice plumage and head colors. Sharp. I just added a little light to the shadows and cropped slightly Jun 6th
72 Jun 22 Comment Adrian, lucky you. I have been several times to Costa Rica but never seen this beautiful quetzal which I understand is a must get for any photographer visiting the country. Photography in CR is not easy. The light conditions are very adverse, and most of the time you are shooting under heavy tree canopy with poor light and facing with the dreaded noise, that you have managed very well. Thank you for telling us the whole story with images Jun 6th
72 Jun 22 Comment Marie, I think that the Pileated Woodpecker is the most elegant of the over 23 varieties existent in the USA. Your image is nicely composed. The head and plumage crown is a bit softer even in your original, so it was not due to the crop. It might have been that your focus point fell slightly behind his head and at the wood trunk or perhaps in the green in front and behind the bird. I just added a little light to the body feathers to see more detail Jun 6th
72 Jun 22 Comment As an additional token, found an image where the snake has the mouth open trying to progress in the swallowing of the fish Jun 4th
