The area is a.k.a T.M. Goodwin Waterfowl Management Area. We were there late April, but there is a lot of construction and we could not go to the other side of the Islands that holds the rockery, so the shots were from a long distance across the water. Between January and July no boats are allowed either (nesting period). This image was created with a full frame sensor and 1000 mm (800 mm lens + 1.25x TC |

Bill, I also was there. Very sharp image, all the detail in the wood is available, and the wheel in the front brakes the verticals of the wooden wall. Yes, the blue is oversaturated, and yes, the crop created a long and narrow image |

Gary, the tricolor is just skimming the water with the tip of the toes. The image is sharp and the colors are right even though the light was not optimal yet. They do this movement when they are fishing minnows. There is a nice track as well as a reflection in the water. Plenty of space to fly into |

Erik, the image is sharp and with peak action. Funny the way one bird grabs the other's head. I have seen them actually fencing with the beaks. The colors are very bright and vivid. The contrast with the greenery enhances the image. Good composition. Another magnificent nature image |

Guy, what an interesting colorful building with an unconventional architecture. Yes, removing shadows can become a monumental piece of work. You did pretty good, but needed to be finished with "precision surgery" so you came to the right place. Using a combination of cloning at 30 % hardness, and the patch tool, and voila here it is. Nonetheless is a beautiful combination of colors, very sharp and very bright. Your crop selection is probably one of several options |

Gloria, I also like to photograph the storm drain covers a.k.a manhole covers, and this ones gives the location (travel Photography). I like the way the legs are placed on the frame and following the colored bricks which indirectly creates a path. Another example of less is more. Perhaps I would crop some of the left (my left) of the frame |

Bill, the dark version gives more character to the image, removing all the distracting elements in the background. The image is sharp and I like the way you composed it going from the left of the frame to the right |

Bruce, this is a lovely image. Sharp, good vantage point capturing five visible heads of a total of 7, still an odd number. Great the way the others are looking at the result of the challenge. Obviously "piedra-papel o tijeras" (in Spanish) is an international event. Now, here it seems that three are participating instead of the conventional two. |

Les, it is obvious that this man is in no rush. I like the way he is looking at you with just his right eye, keeping the left closed like he is squinting. The contrast of his red shirt against the blue doors in the background is great. It is also evident that he has been exposed to the sun extensively by the changes on his dark skin. The image is sharp. I also like his body language/posture |

Hans, in reference to the image I think that pretty much everything has been said. It is a good action, and a good panning shot under the the light conditions. |

We had a judge at our local camera club that when he was judging and a bird image would come up (that is what we mainly photograph in Florida) he would say, oh well another "chicken". |

Kerry, good rodeo action shot, but I am sure the judges want all four in the air. Your PP and crop really improved the image. It is sharp. It is good that you can see the whole face of the rider |

Gerald, peak of action. I prefer the original image since it shows more of the story, but I find it a little bright and loosing detail on the water. I reduced the brightness, added a little light to the shadows and finished with local masking of the faces and added slight light there as well. |

Ronald, thanks for your comments. Actually Miguel Cabrera is not the pitcher shown in the main image but from the same team. I included him in two additional images just to complement the story about his achievement, the triple crown. He is shown batting and also covering first base.
Now, going back the the main image, the lefty pitcher, you are saying that the pitcher's area is not necessary. How about this crop. Forget about the other images for now |

Ronald, this is an ultimate action shot, and yes the background should be out of focus so it is less distracting. This looks like a very difficult tackle/move to stop a player, usually you do it with your legs/feet and not with your arms/hands. I think it is a good sports photo. The only negative is the amputated leg. It situations like this you shoot from the hip and there is not much time to think about composition. I am looking at the image on a non calibrated monitor, and it looks a little bright and that it could use a little more contrast. |

Michael, great image and I also like the way the tree trunk is framing the waterfall together with the rock wall, and Larry's crop. I respect photographers that go out of the way for a particular shot
I used one of the Topaz Adjust presets fro daylight (after the rain, I guess) |

Adrian I find this image a little busy in spite of the cropping you did. There is still a lot going on in addition to the lighted White Egret and the Crocodile. I like the way the out of focus Egrets in the back frame the illuminated one. Good that both the bird and the gator are looking in the same direction. Nice water reflection. I cropped additionally to make the pair stand out |

Mary, first I hope everything goes well with your knee surgery. I had my right done 11 years ago. Interesting image of the bridge with all the ornaments. The blue ski with the white clouds, and the mountains creates a very nice background. The person on his bike complements the image and gives dimension to it. I just cropped slightly from the right (my right) of the frame, and added some light to the motorist to make it stand out better |

Bruce, beautiful Humming Bird with a perfect non distracting, and contrasting background. Very sharp, and I like very much the curved and narrow perch. I was looking over the different varieties (more than 25) but could not identify this one. It is very sharp, and the catchlight adds interest to it |

Barbara, nice image of two young great Blue Herons that have not fledged yet taking to each other. The image is sharp and your PP brought out nice details and colors, but I think the background is a little overexposed, being a cloudy day. The interaction of the two birds gives more interest to the image, but I think you left too much space around the birds showing distracting elements including the greenery and the nest. A much tighter crop emphasizes the birds.
Welcome again |

Randy, you obviously are having a ball with the "new toy". You have photographed a Great White Heron with matting colors plumage, and that is the reason of transporting building materials for the new nest. The image is sharp, and shown peak of action. The light was not the best of the day, and the image is slightly overexposed at the front edge of the wings. Now I have a problem with your shown crop, you do not crop at all, or you do a tight crop. Just amputating slightly the wings will not do good on international of pure natute competitions. I give you my two options |
