4 Jun 21 Reply Bill, the way I see it, the pole (light pole ?) is in front of the perimeter wall and is not casting a shadow into the drawing, and what we see as possible shadow, is just darkening of the edges of the windows frames painted on the wall, imitating a shadow. As you can see there is no vertical continuity from the upper part to the lower part. With your crop, now the whole mural is the center of attention with no distractions. Jun 25th
4 Jun 21 Reply Yes Vella, these are the Asian camels with two humps and the hair is completely different to the African Camels, plus the fact that these people take care of them continuosly. Jun 9th
4 Jun 21 Reply Guy, very nice result indeed. Jun 9th
4 Jun 21 Reply This wall painting events also happen here in South Florida at the Wynwood area in Miami. In fact they are called Wynwood Walls. Lots of artist's are invited to do them, and the walls rotate on a yearly basis. Jun 9th
4 Jun 21 Comment Ian, you have become the official recorder/photographer of a lot of events so far. Obviously your craft has spread around. Congratulations indeed. Now; Bella Donna in Italian means beautiful woman, but is also a poisonous perennial plant/flower native to Europe, North Africa, and Western Asia. It is a Medical plant used as a sedative, to stop bronchial spasms in asthma and whooping cough, and as a cold and hay fever remedy, not to mention intestinal spasms and diarrhea. Enough of this Medical stuff... The image covers the whole painted wall and with very rich colors. The projected shadows effect gives dimension to the image as is the spilled painting effect on the walls. Overall it is a nice documental image and very sharp. Jun 8th
4 Jun 21 Comment Guy, interesting set of wavy contrast between the sand and the water poodles, and at the far back the uniform blue band corresponding to the ocean. The presence of the gull gives dimension to the image that otherwise one could not tell how big of an area it is. Indeed the whole landscape is huge, since this only represents a section captured by your telephoto composition. The colors are soft pastel and complement each other. Jun 6th
4 Jun 21 Reply I like it better this way. Jun 6th
4 Jun 21 Reply Gary, on my original PP I was thinking to remove it completely, but then I decided not to since I might use this image in a Photo Travel salon which like in pure nature, does not allow any removal or flipping in this case. But I have to admit that I did not think about doing what you did, and I like it. Thanks for the idea. It can be used in color like this. Jun 6th
4 Jun 21 Comment Erik, patience paid off. You were able to get his face contrasting with the beautiful green out of focus background and non distracting and still giving out some of the local vegetation. The bear is very sharp, and there is light in the eyes. Unfortunately, you had too much lens power and could not get a complete bear within the image which looks kind of amputated and non pleasing. My take on this image is a tighter crop a la portrait and giving him space to look and go into. My only experience with a black bear was outside Iron Mountain in the upper peninsula of Michigan. I was driving in the highway and the bear crossed the street. I braked, drove back and was able to get a couple of shot before it disappeared in the forest. Jun 5th
4 Jun 21 Comment Vella, lots of detail and color throughout the frame. Many shades of blue indeed. Interesting message on the wall: What is real ? A couple of the real old fashion banners painted on the brick of the wall still holding in spite of time and the elements. Good eye, good PP. Good architectural image as well. Jun 1st
4 Jun 21 Comment Gary, the complex PP paid off. The amount of detail and color from the front to the back is limitless, not to mention the perfect symmetry. Nice star effect on the lights. Perhaps a little decrease in the brightness will improve the contrast of the pastel colors. Jun 1st
4 Jun 21 Comment Bill, the tulip is not ready to give up yet. Beautiful example of Wabi Sabi. Still showing the complex details of the petals before turning the last corner. The color is vivid, the details in the petals and the central piece is sharp. Perfect management of the white light. Never underestimate the complexity of simplicity. Jun 1st

58 Jun 21 Reply Dan, this is exactly the purpose of these discussion groups. We do not all have to agree !! Jun 15th
58 Jun 21 Comment Dan, an image is more than a thousand words. You were at the right place at the right time. I like the juxtaposition of the lady with the painted blue background which looks like an underwater scene, and here she is exposed and baking under the sun, already showing some tanning effects, meaning that she does this frequently. I find the other concrete bench and the white structure behind distracting, so I cropped the image. Good colors, and sharp. Jun 14th
58 Jun 21 Comment Bruce, as you said; people is making up for the lost time spent indoors due to Covid-19. Indeed this couple looks very relaxed, helped by the beautiful sunny day, and both of them are involved in the new life style. People do not talk anymore. They are just immersed in cyberspace.... (google/email, facebook, whatsApp, instagram, twitter just to mention some. The 24 hour's of the day do not seem sufficient to catch up.
The image is full of color, it is sharp. The magnificence of the Met is present.

58 Jun 21 Comment Hassan, very peaceful mood image still in cold weather given by the fact that everybody is well dressed and with jackets. It is late afternoon by the long shadows. Obviously the sitting woman became aware of you and is looking your way. Nobody is wearing a bathing suit. It must be difficult to walk barefoot on this beach due to the nature of the ground. There is no sand but just gravel/shells/little stones. The couple in the foreground is the main subject, and the people in the background complement the image and give dimension to the image. The haze in the background gives some mystery to it. I added some light to the shadows and now there is more detail on the lady's face, and I made the horizon line straight. Jun 8th
58 Jun 21 Comment Gloria, the expression on the boys face makes this image. Indeed he is enjoying the water spray probably on a hot day. The background complements the image most likely representing a water park and tells the story. Good placement of the young man in the frame. It is sharp. Jun 6th
58 Jun 21 Comment Les, nice eye to eye interaction between them and the kid is mesmerized tasting his ice cream. Nice contrast between classic (characteristic outfit) and modern, what the kid is wearing and the electronic watch on the man's wrist. I find the blue bag on the floor very distracting and pulling my eyes toward it all the time. I jus reduced the saturation to make it less obvious. Image is sharp and the two people with the blue bag form an inverted triangle which helps to the composition. Jun 5th
58 Jun 21 Comment Daniel, good timing to get the cyclist reaching the upside down road sign which could be interpreted as going the "wrong way" and that would have been my title. The image is sharp but dark so you do not appreciate the man's face details, plus I think there is a lot of empty space which is not helping. A couple of adjustments: increased light in the shadows and cropped it making the cyclist and sigh stand out more and telling the story. Jun 5th

67 Jun 21 Comment Michael, the hummingbirds flap their wing about 2000 times/second so they can hover like an helicopter, that is why the wings are blurred at 1/350 sec. You need at least 1/2000 sec as Larry stated. Now, the way I see this image, the main subject is the bird, but it gets lost in the immensity of the flowers and greenery. With this crop, the bird stands out, and you are still telling the story. Jun 6th
67 Jun 21 Comment Larry, this is not aggression, it is the typical reaction of the young when a parent comes with food that will regurgitate to feed them. You can tell that it is a young bird by the nature of the feathers on the head, like a bad hair day. They will hold tight the beak of the parent afraid it would go away and not share the food. In reality he or she is not saying get out, but do not go away. Same situation in the image of the Great White egret feeding the chicks by Richard Matheny Jun 6th

72 Jun 21 Reply This is probably a flamingo that escaped from the circus Jun 21st
72 Jun 21 Reply Randy, I like this image better Jun 21st
72 Jun 21 Comment Marie, good action shot. I do like the high key PP but it ended up with a very strong magenta hue. A B&W interpretation is in order. Jun 4th
72 Jun 21 Comment Adrian, what a beautiful seen. The male is courting the female with the grass. Same is true with the Great Blue Herons when the male brings the stick to make the nest, if she takes it, it is a sign that they can mate. I love the pink flowers in the background as decoration for the ceremony. Your PP brought out nice details and color. My only critique is that you amputated the tail feathers of the female. Overlooked ? (you have them in the original). Nice composition in an angle due to the characteristics of the terrain. Jun 4th
72 Jun 21 Reply Bruce, indeed the flamingos are long and a vertical (portrait) presentation is in order had I photographed the whole bird, but I was more intrigued by the twisted neck looking like and 8 or perhaps infinite ∞ Jun 2nd
72 Jun 21 Comment Bruce, this image proves that climbing a tree is not a good escape route if you see a black bear. It is incredible the agility of this animals to get up there and sleep comfortably.
Your PP brought out color and detail in the bears and vegetation, and made it straight. Great image. My only experience with a black bear, I was driving around Iron Mountain in the upper peninsula in Michigan and the young guy walked across the highway, I stoped, reversed, I had my camera next to me, and was able to get a couple of images before it went into the forest.

72 Jun 21 Comment Randy, peak of action image. Typical pose while hunting in the coyotes, also in the foxes. Obviously, you were very far from the coyote (840 mm) and you only were able to fill about 5% of the frame, which required a tremendous amount of cropping rendering a soft and pixelated image. The coyote is very bright and some ares look like have no information. I reduced the overall brightness and exposure, and then selected the background and darkened it additionally to make the coyote stand out more. Sorry that could not improve the sharpness. Jun 2nd
72 Jun 21 Comment Walt, this image is a HDR masterpiece no wonder got best of the year. It is incredible the amount of information that was extracted from the highlights, specially outside the window, and the dark shadows. I would say that 80% of my non wildlife photography I bracketed regardless. Of course, I do not mind the extra PP work. The sharpness and vivid colors in the image in spite of being indoors. I like the composition very much. The additional image shows a historical piece of equipment. Jun 2nd

92 Jun 21 Comment Marianne, image in the camera upside down, and you had to carry a truckload of flash bulbs.... The invention of the electronic flash, changed our life's !! Great historic image indeed. The printed photos in the image look like polaroid. Jun 17th
92 Jun 21 Reply Now this makes sense. Great image. Jun 17th
