Sharon, interesting pose of the pelican in preening action. Obviously, you did a selection and darkening of the background, but it discovers itself in the dorsum of the beak where is is too serrated and some of the feathers area. I think it looks better with a borrowed eye from another pelican. |

Hassan, the very bright area above the tower of the building, corresponding to the sun, it is overexposed, and there are no pixels to work with. The only thing that can be done is to replace the sky with another or using the clone stamp tool with try and error, as I did, and cover the overexposed area. |

Second image I cropped it, to give more prevalence to the man, still preserving the photojournalistic/travel characteristics of the image. |

Hassan, indeed early morning worker already carrying his tool. I like the solitude of the area with the water puddles creating reflections of the first light, and the buildings creating a path at the man and leading line towards the ocean. I reduced slightly the brightness and added light to the shadows, now we can see the man with more details and also straightened the verticals. |

Dan, it very interesting how the strong shadow (most likely direct flash) duplicates the image giving a lot of depth. Also the balloon on the right upper and those in the left lower balance out the image. I straightened the verticals, reduced the brightness and areas of overexposure. |

Gloria, he is the King of the Everglades. Indeed he is prepared for everything. The umbrella and the dark sunglasses for the shiny sun (late afternoon because of the long shadows). As you mentioned, he carries all of his possessions with him. The leading lines: grass on the left and canal on the right, and path in the center converge and frame him with his umbrella. He did approve you taking his picture and he is smiling to you. Was he coming from grocery shopping ?? (all those bags hanging on his bike), and his wardrobe is pretty decent for a homeless.
Addendum: Today I drove under the pass of the Sawgrass Expressway/Atlantic Avenue and he was sitting on his chair and next to his bike, wearing the same clothing |

Daniel, great capture and indeed the man is trying to figure it out if his head is still in place. It is really perfect timing to get him between the two ice cream cones, and the little one, as stated by Hassan is having a conversation with him. It is also good that both individuals are in motion. The image is sharp, and the colors are well balanced. |

Jim, you caught them at the pick of the action just before physical contact, but the face language tells the story. The image is sharp, the colors are well handled and balanced. One negative detail is the amputated hand and the half face on the left of the frame. A tighter crop and a vignette would help. |

Bruce, I went to the Palouse a few years ago, but did not see the waterfalls. Great composition, very bright colors, sharp, nice silky water, and you have the aded bonus of two rainbows in the image. I did a different crop eliminating some of the black in the lower corner and a bit of sky, but still keeping the landscape orientation.
I am glad you did not brake any bones. This type of falls at our age can be disastrous to say the least.

Adrian, the image is very sharp considering the 1/250 sec exposure on a 840 mm lens, and the f/5.6 which does not give you much of DOF. As you mention, the i/s really works in that camera/lens combination. Your PP including the cropping isolated the mother and baby very well eliminating some of the distracting elements in the frame, and it is good that you waited until both faces were free of obstruction. |

Kent, your dog was saved a thorough bath would he be skunked..
The creature is sharp, alert and the crop placed it in the right position with his head on the third. The muted background color contrasts nicely. It is reasonable sharp. |

Abhijeet, the great hornbill is a magnificent bird and you captured it bringing fruit to the nest in the hollow tree. Interesting position surrounding the opening with its body. It is sharp, and your crop eliminated dead space, still leaving enough blurred background to give context of location to the image. It is sharp and the colors are vivid. |

Mary, indeed you have brought to us the beauty of the underwater. I like the way you were able to show us the colors of the living creatures and the effect of time and saltwater on the wreck. I also like very much how the blue background with the presence of the other divers complement the image and gives dimension. I see the other divers are carrying what looks like photographic equipment. Was this an underwater photography workshop ? |
