It is interesting as how different observers have different observations about this image. At the local camera club, when I submitted this for competition, the only observation of the judge was that the green background was too noisy..... nothing else about the image. Well; Oh Well !!! |

Joe, this is one of the gifted possibilities in digital photography and the modern DSLR's, and film being "free", you press the shutter, with 12 frames per second, you do not stop until the buffer fills up...... |

Bill, you achieved a WOW effect. indeed very elaborated but it is like fire. It is a "true" mirror image, and I would like to know what did you do to get the slight "blur" in the reflection. Very creative rendition of a just dark city scape. |

Ian, first of all, Kudos 2 U !!! Congratulations. Indeed this is a very striking image of Julian. Your PP really intensified his face and also allowed you to show some subtle detail of his outfit, giving us the curiosity to see more. My only observation is the bright element in the bottom, perhaps the plug of a crystal bottle for licor, and perhaps some extra and not needed empty space around him. I took the liberty of cropping the image as this, still keeping the main elements in the center as they were. Great portrait. |

Guy, you do not need a tripod, sell it on ebay or equivalent... Now seriously, it is impressive how you were able to achieve a real sharp image handholding and using 1/5 sec. It is another stairway masterpiece for your collection. By now you should be able at least to print a 12 month calendar dedicated to staircases. The colors and white balance are well handled. The fish eye gives you the desired effect of depth keeping it sharp as well. |

Joe, intriguing landscape which has a very prominent leading line created by the rock fence in the gravel road, taking your eyes to the back where you find some houses with red roofs, and then there is the distant background which is fuzzy probably due to the haze and makes you wonder what is happening back there. The colors are nice, and the image is sharp. |

David, you did a great job "cleaning" the image of the intruding add ons from the other ride. You achieved a great silhouetted riders on a colorful and cloudy backdrop. It is sharp. My only observation is that there is a lot of central machinery of the ride full of colorful lights which competes with the main subject. I did crop it. |

Erik, beautiful family portrait of the prairie dogs on a great backdrop of colorful flowers, blurred enough not to compete with the main subject which is very sharp. The colorful foreground also adds in the composition. Obviously they are curious of something going on, perhaps the other photographers. I only added a little light to the shadows, and decreased a bit the brightness in the background. Great image indeed. |

David, I am impressed with you ability to make an intriguing image form a common snapshot full of distracting elements. What a complex combination of filters which need anticipated knowledge of the expected effect. |

With all due respect Richard, I do not agree with you. The blacks and the whites are well handled, and more so, coming from a scanned negative. Not to mention the impact of the image. |

Peter, we had the same experience in Iceland this past may. Of the 12 days, we had 9 with rain, cold and heavy winds. Awful for photography.
This IR capture really gives impact to the image. The details and contrasts really makes your eyes study the image for every element. Also like very much the contrast of the old and primitive conditions, with the modern ones. Great image indeed. |

Ian, just visiting. Indeed an image with a lot of depth, and the wall with the spiral direction takes your eyes out and away to the sky (no clouds though) after you get through the bars. Agree with Rashid about the inscriptions. |

Deborah, the vendor in imitating the body language of the statue. It is sharp and great composition. The light is harsh and the colors need a little boost. First I reduced the brightness and exposure in ACR and then used the same preset in Luminar that I used in my image to boost the colors and improved the sky and clouds. Added a slight vignette. |

Dan, as you said two identical water drops. I wish we could see a little more of their faces, but they are so involved looking inside the green bucket. The rock with it's art balances the image. Very sharp and colorful. Great image. |

Jim, great photojournalistic image. very colorful and with a lot of items to keep your eyes busy. Was this a color negative or a Kodak chrome transparency ?. Do you remember camera and lens used ? (of course there is no metadata available...). It is sharp and shows interaction between the photographer and the subject. I also learned a new word: trinkets. |

Thanks Hassan, yes it is a little oversaturated, that is exactly the effect obtained using the preset in Luminar, which is a Plug In for Photoshop or Lightroom, or it can be used stand alone by itself. More info in your email. |

Hassan, this is an interesting street graffiti image with interesting reflections of the glass door of the opposite street, and we have the gift of the photographer's image. I added some light to the shadows, and now we can see more detail of the reflections. The presence of the human component adds interest to the image, more so since there is obvious movement with the slight blur. I felt that the graffiti on the right side of the frame was somewhat distracting so I cropped off some of it and cloned out some of it, so the presence of the pole would not be close to the edge of the frame creating tension. |

Gloria, great portrait of the biker, and being the main elements of the image his large and complex (multiple images inside) tattoo. He is very sharp, and his body language with the cigarette on the corner of the mouth and his head turned to the side, is very challenging and trying to say that he is in control and inviting you to look at his tattoo. It is sharp. I cropped a little to put the tattoo off center. Also added a vignette. |

Daniel, I like very much the yuxtaposition of the elements in the image, the observers on the left side of the frame and the reflection of the other gentleman with glasses on the right side as well as the signs, and the intriguing look of the poster lady which is the center of attention. At first I was tempted to crop the half face of the woman on the left, but in fact it creates tension at the border, making the image more interesting. The white balance was handled good for the light. Since we can not see what the observers were looking at, it makes us wonder even more. Good composition. |

Kent, beautiful and colorful bird that I have never seen here in Florida. Your crop and PP really brought out detail and color and even a catch light in the eye. Very sharp and almost no noise at this ISO 3200. The background is perfect and non distracting. I wish the bird would be facing you. |

Abhijeet, my first impression even before I read your explanation was that this is an "aerial" image, and then I realized that the exposure is 1/2 sec that created the silky effect on the water, and I saw the grass in the corner foreground.... your vantage point is very high. Great PP, you were able to remove the magenta hue and add light to the shadows. I was tempted to crop some of the landscape opposite to the fall, but then I felt that it gives dimension to the water fall. Great image. |

Mary, it really amazes me how a little added light brings the color out in the underwater creatures. The flash freezes the action since all the fishes are in focus. I have no experience with underwater photography, but to my eyes, there is a cyan hue. I used Photoshop CC and reduced the cyan, and increased slight the red. Fascinating all the underwater creatures. |

Bruce, great capture and you were pretty close since the image shows only a slight crop compared to the original where you filled the frame with the subjects. The flying eagle is tack sharp and it looks as is going to embrace the juvenile eagle in the front which is slightly soft. The short/narrow DOF is also due to the short distance to the subject. I like the blur in the front as well as in the back. Do the eagles try to open the oysters ?? My guess is that it was low tide. |

Now Tony, with respect to the fence being obvious in the image, it really compromises the quality of the picture. I think that just mentioning that the image was created at the Zoo implies the presence of the fence. Ways to avoid include using a wide open f/stop or bringing the lens close to the fence and put the center of it in the middle of the opening if it is a very closed fence, or between the wires, I exaggerated the presence of the fence in your image for illustration purposes. |

Toni, this month you are showing again an image of an animal in the Zoo and once again the fence is very obvious, and in fact shadows some of the tiger's face. Indeed this is a beautiful beast, and as you mentioned last month, the only chance to see them for people that can not have the luxury to go to Africa and watch them in the wild. I like the way you cropped the image, eliminating the distracting tree trunk. I extended the crop a little more to eliminate the green at the edge, added light and contrast to the shadows to see more detail in the face, and reduced the intensity of the green in the rocks which are slightly distracting. One more observation is that it is unfortunate that you amputated the legs of this magnificent creature. Next time try to get the whole animal in the frame. |
