Bill, it is not blue on my monitor. Actually, as mentioned in the first comment she asked me if I desaturated (colorless) the people and the golf cart as well as the side walls. It was the result of the HDR processing. Kind of strange indeed !! |

Bill, you image indeed implies open space and tranquility. It is sharp. At first impression I thought that the horizon line was not straight and I checked it in Photoshop with the leveling tool, but it is straight. The water line looks curved, so it is a visual illusion. The colors are appropriate for the time of the day. Except for the two small canopies in the foreground, the image does not have an anchor visual point. |

Guy, good travel or photojournalistic image. The light painting really made the image "light up" (pun intended) and bring out all the detail of the stones. The dark areas of the image add mystery to it and frame the illuminated area. It is sharp. The crop composed well the image. I just reduced slightly the brightness since it is a bit too bright. The Black and White interpretation was the right choice. |

Erik, great image. Lovely composition and very sharp. It is a winner for me as well (what do the judges know ??....) This is a typical image of the behavior of the growing up white egrets when they are hungry. They literally will eat each other. The background is well managed being out of focus and not distracting. There is another rockery with gators and birds in Orlando which also offers great opportunities and cater for the photographers: Gatorland. |

Bill, lovely landscape image of the Thurmond Depot which implies location as well. I like very much the composition which includes many element like leading lines, placement of the elements in the frame, sharpness, nice color rendition by the HDR process and final touch with Luminar (I like this program very much). Somehow, this image has a very strong bluish hue specially in the shadows (I see this in some of the Luminar presets) so I reduced the blue saturation, and added some to the greens and yellows. Works as a Travel photography image as well. |

Helen, I was also very frustrated to not getting the image sans people. The only way is to be on the park at 6:00 AM when they open and take a quick ride downhill before the masses show up. No, I did not desaturate the golf cart, people and side walls. It is the result of the Aurora 2018 HDR process. I went back to look at the three HDR exposures, and it is so dark that color is very subdued. |

Ian, it takes two men to to turn back the clock. I thought that it could be done inside the mechanical parts, but obviously no. Very interesting moment when the men are hanging by red and blue ropes which add interest. The architecture of the building is magnificent and it is very sharp and nicely composed in the frame. The added white stroke separates the image from the background. I cropped the image to center the attention on the working men, and replaced the white stroke. |

Joe, yes it works. It added color to the image and of course eliminated potential distracting elements as well. I like the boat in the foreground on top of the rocks and then the midground and the background, well exposed, add interest and shows location. It is sharp and the colors are well balanced. |

Dan, nice example of the reproduction of the iconic Beatles record cover "Abbey Road". I think it does not make any difference whether you do your LightRoom adjustments before Silver Effex or viceversa. Now, I think that there is too much contrast on your image, creating dark shadows in the faces of the children. I did add some light to the shadows to get more detail, and also made the vertical lines straight.
Reading back on your description, perhaps you did too many adjustments to the image. |

Jim, great very colorful capture of the group, nicely tight , of course they are looking towards another photographer, away from you. It is a good candid denoting the moment, place and enjoyment of all. The background is nicely blurred and not distracting (Details of camera and settings not stated). There is a pinkish hue on the highlights, probably result of the HDR process in Photomatix. |

Hassan, this is a good example of a street scene, or also travel photography. As you mention in your description, you captured the moment and the attention of the tram passenger looking out the window to the people walking by. The composition is good, but there are a few elements that need attention. First the woman and the edge of the frame was cut and creates tension and distraction, so I cropped the image slightly. The whole image has a bluish hue and also the people have a bluish or a greenish line around them (fringing) which could be related to the lens used (not specified) or perhaps oversaturation in post processing. I was able to remove the green fringing, but not the blue. Last the background of the image is slightly soft (out of focus). I do not know if it was intentionally to create some bokeh or was related to the f/stop used (not stated).
You mention that you had your camera in "A" mode (is it Aperture priority or Automatic ??) |

Daniel, I like very much this minimalistic image composed by two chairs of different color facing each other and reflected in the round glass on the wall and creating a compressed image of the reality. I also like the way the lines on the ground and on the walls frame the chairs, work as leading lines, and add interest to the image. It is sharp. You picked a very good vantage point to create the image. |

Gloria, interesting image of the western wall in Jerusalem (The holiest place of the Jewish faith). It shows a very large group of people (on Saturday or Jewish holidays you can not walk through the amount of people congregating). Normally Bar Mitzvah's are celebrated Monday, Thursday and Saturday, which are the days the Torah (Pentateucus) is taken out for reading. I believe that being the place it is, people still celebrate Bar Mitzvahs any day of the week. You image was taken from the women's side. There is a canopy which is slightly distracting. Now about the scene, there is a lot going on and it is difficult to center your eyes in a particular point. I like two things and is the way that the moving table and the armoire in the background is framed by the heads in the foreground. I did crop the image slightly to center more the points of interest and eliminate the canopy and the cut images. I used an image of the same place (same elements in the background) created on a Thursday, with a family group celebrating the boy's Bar Mitzvah and with the Sephardic Torah in his hands (The Ashkenaz Torah's are built differently but the text is the same). |

Ken, this is a great capture, the bird is well located in the frame and the tips of the wings feathers are very sharp and frozen. At High shutter speed the VR has no action, but does not intefere with the shot unless you are on a tripod (the newer generation of lenses have a tripod option). Now, is this a 500 mm prime lens f/4.0 or the new Nikkor 200-500 mm f/5.6 zoom, because it makes a difference with respect of sharpness. If you look well the camera must have focused on the wings and not on the eyes or tail, and that is why you have the softness at both ends. 1/1250 sec should be enough for this shot, now you are adding the slight additional movement due to hand holding and panning to follow the bird.
I took your original image, cropped it slightly to place the bird more in the third, still leaving enough space in the front to fly into, and added more light to the shadows than you did, now you can see more detail in the feathers. The eye catchlight adds value to the image. |

Abhijeet, this is the first time I see this bread of ducks. I do not know if they migrate to the US at any time. Your image is sharp (hand held with a 600 mm lens). the 1/4000 shutter speed worked to freeze the wings. Odd numbers also add interest to the image, the placement of the birds in the frame is good, and the background is out of focus and not distracting. Good crop. the color PP also appropriate. |

Vic, great image, it is very sharp in spite of the use of the x2 TC (1200 mm). Good PP and the removal of the branch improved the image considerably with no distractions. The Bokeh is perfect and uniform, and the catch light in the eye adds value to it. |
