It's a really nice image and I'm sure it will do well. My concern is that I have seen judges forgetting about the story when rating the image. I think bringing up the brightness and perhaps detail or vibrance of the eye on the escaping loon helps to define his head a little more. |

I agree with comments on cropping in on the photo to eliminate the boring sky and the extraneous wire. I like the vintage period the street lights adds to the photo but it is likely impossible to include it in a meaningful way. You may want to reshoot one day and slightly change the angle. I also try replacing the sky but the top of the building is best removed regardless of the sky. With the minutia out of the way what a wonderful eye to see and capture the image. |

Really nice composure Norm. Your image that cropped out the bottom branch is a much getter composition. You know the adage take away what is not needed and you have a great photo. |

Like always I was a little slow to catch the wonderful detail in the image. Typical of your work. I would have liked a difference in the lighting to capture the eye a little better perhaps a flash with the shortest of burst. I tried bring up the eyes, especially on the escaping loon. Without regard immaterial techy things what a great capture with a wonderful story. |

Nice image Harriet. Perhaps more detail with the blacks would help somewhat of a take off from Stan suggestions and a catch light in the eye is often a plus as Tracy and Norm suggested. Regardless its a nice image and the image brings back some wonderful feeling from my summers at the grandparents farm. |

Hi john, you always have such a good eye. I think placing the light at the crash point, rule of thirds, or whatever one likes to call it was good. The lighting and color are really eye-catching with what I consider the main subject of your image the light which seems to me to be well captured. This could really be a great night shot as long as you don't get arrested for sneaking in with flashlights and camera equipment :>) |

Great info on the portrait photography. I only entered the image in one contest, Montenegro's Jadran Circuit. The image likely would do a bit better in other circuits since the Serbian area seems to get lots of studio images which generally means coming up with something a little unique to get attention. |

First is Stan's question about her rings. There is lots of reasons Indian women wear rings on toes, nose, fingers, etc. In this case I suspect it is financial. In other words if the economy goes south she can trade a ring for staples. During the photo shoot I asked her to make me wish I was her boy friend so she gave me the direct eye contact and I shot as her smile was going away. Lighting set up was the two lights you can see in her eyes, a large softbox as the main light, a soft box and considerable distance for fill light, and a barndoor to backlight the showdown area. |
