Thank you for your comments Stuart. You are correct perhaps the sky should have been mono. I start thinking there are too many post processing methods that I think sometime we get (or I do) carried away with that are not necessary. You are also right in your assumption about Shipping Brow. It leads down to the docks where in ages past ships were built in Maryport and launched broadside because the river was narrow. If you Google 'Ships Built in Maryport' you will get a bit of the history and the names of the ships that were built. You are also right about the names in this country having a meaning. We have a Fletcher Street, Christian Street and Bounty Inn (which is alas now a Tesco Express Store), and perhaps more, and these are all related to Fletcher Christian of 'Mutiny on the Bounty' fame who came from this area. - Here endeth the lesson!!! |

A fantastic and impressive looking building, which would look good whatever you did to it in my opinion. However on this occasion Sharon, once again you have gone to great lengths to get your desired effect and it has been totally worthwhile. You have achieved a lovely pastel arty feel to it, which I suspect is totally different from its original character. giving a glamorous and dreamy feel contrary to what might have been, given the type of clientele who visited. Very interesting history. My only small crit would be to try and straighten up the RH side a little which seems to be leaning in slightly. Perhaps one of the Transform facilities in PS would do the trick. but really that is just a minor point. Great image. |

What an interesting and amazing subject, help by the colouration you have applied to it - and an apt subject considering we are coming into the Easter period. You have done a tremendous job eliminating the wires and I do like the fact that the sky remains a neutral colour which has helped set off the fronded trees. There is nothing I could find to improve on. Great job. |

A super little cameo of this popular area. I have been to this area a few times and understand the problems you were encountering, but nevertheless you have done a good job here and got the 'classic' shot. I feel you have used the right shutter speed to freeze the water on this fall.

There is a lot going on here Stuart. Interesting sky and cloudscape, Dramatic Rockface and interesting foreground with a lead in. In my opinion it should be better than it comes over. You seem to have done all the right things but it seems bit stuck in the mid tone area, although you specify you have used curves and contrast. Maybe a bit of selective dodging and burning would help to put some life into it. worth trying as potentially it looks to be a very nice image. Perhaps a crop of the bottom would give the rock structure more prominence and take it off centre. |

Wow. this just jumps off the page. Very dramatic clouds (only little crit - there is some burnt out parts in the white areas). the tree is very majestic and burdened with low lying branches. Going by the size of the trunk I wonder how it is supporting these but altogether a magnificent looking tree. The strong fence is a good lead in to the whole scene. Well done. Great image |
