Hi Bob - just to clarify. My political beliefs had nothing to do with my decision to not support US businesses with my limited funds. I've been a political junky for many years, and cannot think of an instance where politics have influenced my buying behaviour. This is different. The US is trying to ruin Canadas economy, and attempt to destroy our country as a sovereign state. Can't happen? It's just a negotiation strategy? Who is going to stop this president - congress, the judiciary, the Supreme Court? Maybe the people? With approximately 70 millions of eligible voters not voting at all?
Sorry Bob, I'm afraid I'm showing my age! And I worry about what kind of a world my grandkids inherit |

Me too - I've learned so much from you - and for your Canadian images, taken in places that I've not yet visited. All the best |

Great action shot - caught at the right moment. Effective composition and colours.
See my version - the only change I made, a little noise reduction and sharpening in Topaz - see what you think |

I like this nature shot quite a bit - you captured the intricate shapes and tones of the ice really well. The composition is also quite strong as there is a natural flow for the eyes to follow. In my version attached, I cropped it a bit, to highlight the ice. |

An interesting image - I like how you captured the 2 people having a conversation and the half smile on the woman's face. The artistic background also works for me. |

An interesting and creative image. No suggestion on any changes. As well, the original, with some minor adjustments, could also be an interesting subject. |

Interesting stuff - As you say, the impact an image makes on a viewer is very much related to our personal taste. There is no right or wrong - only how much impact does this image have on me. The maker should know and understand that any one persons taste is just that - one persons view/opinion.
When I look at an image - in the first 30 seconds I have determined whether the image has no impact on me, some impact on me, or is very impactful. Then I try to analyze the 'whys' - what I find impactful and what would I do to make it more impactful if it were my image. And I would hope that the maker would use (or ignore) anything that is suggested that does not meet her/his idea of the pictures intent.
I also took this course a few years ago, and I was surprised how much time was spent on 'wordsmithing' - vs improving the critiquing process. |

Sorry, Frans, but I have no idea how your response relates to what I've written re: your image. Can you clarify? |

It was generated from a picture taken with my camera. See Original - it's just a tight crop, but unfortunately cannot locate it. |

I like your new version.
Re: Ai - I find it to be a very fluid, and often very confusing subject.
Here is how I approach it - wright or wrong.
Most of the canvass must have been produced with a digital camera. I use tools such as noise reduction and sharpening that include an aspect of Ai. I replace skies quite a bit, but use my own skies. I do not use clipart or stock images at all. I use brushes rarely. I do paint in material, but only if it is a small portion of the canvass. I d not use someone else's art (art that was created to be viewed as art, and has no other value - like a building. I do not use Generative software that creates pixels - ie 'extend the fence'.
At the end of the day, when I look at one of my pictures, I want to be able to say it's 99% my creation.
Be well, Gunter |

Very nice compositing job. Even though the background is very busy, it seems to work - although the bright areas tend to attract the eyes away from the subject. See my rough version attached - blurred the background and sharpened the bird just a bit, as well as cropping it to focus on the bird. |

WOW - what a great job of compositing. Great composition, colours and tones. Making the leaves into wings shows your skills in this piece. For me, I would like to see a bit more pop - see my attempt, using Ps Curves tool. |

You're a master of these images. You are so creative and talented, I envy you.
A bit disconcerting that you mention Generative Ai - I don't know if you use it, but I have strong bias against using Generative Ai in our PSA submissions. "Photographic Society" means that pixels come from a camera, not software. Sorry for being "preachy". |

Another great compositing job. I really like the subject matter. The dog is excited in seeing the cat, and the cat as always with most cats, ignores the dog. I've always been a dog guy, but the last few years my wife convinced me to get a cat. Must say, th difference in behaviour is astounding. Love the independence of the cat, and the pure joy of the interaction with dogs. Oh YES, love the picture. |

Interesting idea. Seems you have found a new breed of birds. Unfortunately for me, the crystal birds don't work for me - I get the idea, but not enough detail in the new birds. |
