Robin - thanks for your reply.
I disagree with your comment re :"…you end up …."
It's very seldom that my process stops after the software produces the "look". In most cases I run the image through Photoshop Adjustments to fine tune the picture - most often fiddle with colours. Also use the Ps "remove" tool to get rid of things that don't work for me.
If I were skilled enough, I would be a painter, instead of a photographer. |

Oh that blue! Direct from out of the camera shot. I think it came from my cold/warm setting on my camera. |

For me, the additional swirls took some of the focus away from the main points of interest. |

Do I have to get my eyes checked again? I don 't see any blue |

It sure is not Bambi! I like what you've done - a lot of work, but worth it. Can't suggest any changes. |

Bob - I really like your original - it's almost altered reality, without any changes.
My only suggestion is to simplify it a bit. See my cropped version.

Robin - First glance, something terrible is going on here. You have my attention! Your artist statement supports much of what I see in the image. I have some difficulty connecting the 2 "people" and how they relate to each other. I personally think the person on the left is not required, and I struggle with the gramophone. The title is very intriguing as well. You did a great job of creating the mood of the scene. Well done.

I suspect that the 2 Originals are not for this image.
Your altered reality picture is interesting - like your title. Also like the "teeth" made from the building behind. My only suggestions would be to remove the top of the building - personal preference. |

I like your painterly conversion - especially the colours you've chosen - very striking. As already mentioned, the left wall could do with some straightening. |

Actually found a picture of this tractor, a couple of years or so prior to my most recent one. Sometimes it's good to be packrat! |

My hat is off to you (and phone camera technology)! Gorgeous image - great colours and tones. Did you replace the sky? Would have expected to see more of the colours on the water. In any case - a beauty. For the heck of it, I ran it through Topaz Photo Ai, to see if I could pull a bit more sharpness out of it - and I think it worked - mostly on the rocks and lighthouse. |

Very nice autumn image - great colours and scenery. Since the main feature are the shadows on the barn, I suggest a cropped composition to feature them. See what you think. |

Another nice nature capture. The geese are nice and sharp, and are in a nice position. For me I would prefer a more landscapist composition - personal taste. See attached |

A classic image from the Canadian prairies - from Lang, Saskatchewan. Well captured, one of many grain handling facilities in the midwest.
Yes, Elaine, it is in fact in the middle of nowhere - very flat, and oh so important as the breadbasket of Canada. |

Like it very much - captured great action, nice and sharp.
I would prefer just a bit more contrast and give the motorcycle a bit more room in the front to race into. See what you think |

"Confusion" is a perfect title for this piece. It so reflects autumn scenes that I've seen 100 times that have so much going on, it's almost overpowering for the eyes.

Thanks for your critique. You're right - the sky does not work me either - not only too bright but also too "real".

Holy Jurassic Park! Very nicely done - and I do hope the Iguana takes care of that nasty fly, or maybe the fly is just adoring little Grace. Nice job of compositing. |

I find Abstracts very hard to critique. After the first impression of the overall image, I generally notice where and how my eyes travel through the picture - is there a logical path - ie a specific colour or shading or composition that guides my eyes. If there is not, is there anything else in the image that my eyes keep getting drawn to. Finally I ask myself what overall impact has this picture made on me.
In this image, my eyes land on the rods, but have no clue where the next logical point of interest is. Or what the relationship of the rods and rounds is. Sorry, hard to explain, but the picture is not impactful for me. The appeal of Abstracts is so very subjective.
I played with it a bit - simplified it and turned it's on its side, but still does not grab me. |

A very interesting Triptych. Enjoyed exploring each panel. For my eyes, the third panel does not have the impact of the first two - mainly due to the sky - would prefer a more saturated colour, similar to the first 2. Very well thought out and produced. |

Very nice bridal Altered Reality portrait. I have to admit that I don't care for the large flowers - for my eyes, they pull the attention away from the bride. I like how the dress pulls some of the colours in from the abbey, but at the same time it does not make the bride pop - call me old fashioned, but brides need to be in white - joking. But see what it would look like. What do you think? |
